Applause Japanese Restaurant

This Japanese restaurant is really out of the way for me, but my dad really loves this place, so every once in awhile we will make the long drive out to eat here. The food here is pretty fresh and the service is top notch.

What I ate: Chirashi Don ($13.95)

This is my go to dish here. The sashimi is always very fresh and the rice has the perfect vinegar ratio.

What I ate: Double Fantasy Battera – torched local tuna with ponzu sauce layer, middle with oba (shiso) and negitoro ($10.25)

This was so good that we ordered two orders. It combines everything I love in one delicious bite. There’s a strong shiso flavour which compliments the tuna perfectly.

What I ate: Uni Nigiri ($3.00 per piece)

The uni was fresh with a clean taste. No complaints here! In fact it was so good, I ordered another dish after we demolished the first plate.

What we ate: Toro Sashimi ($12.95 for 7 pieces) and Wild Sockeye Salmon Sashimi ($12.95 for 7 pieces)

The sashimi was fresh and not too large. The price was very good for such a generous portion size.

What I ate: Ika Shogayaki – BBQ squid in ginger sauce ($8.95)

If a restaurant offers this, I have to get it. I love squid and this was a pretty good version. I wish it had a bit more grill flavour, but it wasn’t overcooked which I appreciated.

Would I come back? If I was in the area, definitely. But I don’t crave it enough to drive 40 plus minutes to eat here.
