Sooda Korean BBQ is best known for their “Sooda Box” a 46 cm sushi creation made with premium Korean beef. After seeing so many pictures on IG, I had to drag my friend W to check it out.

We went on a weekend at prime dinner time and we managed to snag one of the last available tables. By the time we left at around 7:30 pm, there was at least a wait time of one hour for a table!

What we ate: Special Dakgalbi – chicken marinated in spicy sauce served on a hot plate with cheese, corn, green onions, and seasoned rice ($37.95)

When this arrived at the table it was a definite show stopper. Everything is fully cooked, so you just need to wait for the cheese to start bubbling before you mix all the ingredients together.

You can never go wrong with spicy chicken, cheese and corn and this was no exception. This does get heavier towards the end because of the generous portion of cheese, but for me it’s the best part when the cheese gets crispy and slightly burnt.

What we ate: Sooda Box (half order) – 23 cm of premium Korean steak tartar torched on top of rice ($13.95)

For once my brain overruled my stomach and we decided to share the half order of the Sooda Box instead of the full order. The sushi was extremely saucy and rich, so the slice of jalapeno on top helped to get the fattiness from the mayo and the beef.

Would I come back? Probably not. I feel like this is a try it once type of thing and not necessarily a repeat experience. If my friends wanted to come, I wouldn’t object, but it’s not on the top of my to-go list.
