If you know me, you will know that I am obsessed with sweet potatoes. So when On Yogurt launched their new line of Purple Sweet Potato themed desserts I knew I had to check it out.
On Yogurt is a cute little dessert shop on the edge of Yaletown near BC Place. They are known for their “ice fried” ice cream which is a popular way of preparing ice cream in Thailand. All of their yogurt selections are organic and gluten-free, sourced from local organic farms in BC.
Their new trio of desserts features purple yam in three forms – a bubble waffle, a taiyaki and in a cup and is only available for a limited time.
What we ate: Purple Yam Fusion Bubble Waffle ($9.98)
This is a HEFTY dessert. The bubble waffle is stuffed with purple yam, purple yam rolled ice cream, black sugar, nut crumble, oreo cereal all topped with a dollop of torched crème brûlée. It is a very generously portioned bubble waffle that doesn’t skimp on toppings. Their egg waffle was the perfect vehicle for all the purple yam goodness and was able to hold up to all of the ingredients without getting soggy.
What we ate: Purple Yam Fusion Taiyaki ($9.98)
This taiyaki is positively stuffed to the brim with three delicious layers. The bottom layer was a walnut and almond crumble, on top of that was freshly steamed purple yam and to top of all that goodness a luscious and creamy torched crème brûlée. This has to be one of my favourite desserts in Vancouver. Everything worked so well together and it was surprisingly not too sweet.
I would definitely recommend you check out this limited series before it goes away!
