Sashimiya – High Quality Inexpensive Sushi

It is no secret that I am a huge fan of Japanese food and in particular sushi. One of my favourite spots to get omakase in Vancouver is at The Lobby Lounge & RawBar which is run by Chef Takayuki Omi. He has just quietly opened his own shop in Downtown Vancouver. Sashimiya is a small grab and go sushi spot attached to a small grocery shop. The grocery side is full of Japanese snacks and lots of fresh sashimi options. It is similar in vein to Darumaya in Richmond or Fujiya. Sashimiya is serving up high quality inexpensive sushi downtown.

High Quality and Inexpensive Premium Chirashi

I came by on the weekend to try out a couple sushi options. I went with the Premium Chirashi ($22.50). For the price, this bowl is an absolute steal.

There is a large variety of fresh seafood and the rice was seasoned well. This bowl was pre-made, and I think if we got it fresh it would be even more delicious.

Gokujyou Futomaki

This little shop has been receiving a lot of hype on Instagram as well. I took a screenshot of a roll that another influencer had and Chef was kind enough to recreate it for me. The Gokujyou Futomaki ($25.00) is a pretty high price tag for a 6 piece roll. However, the ingredients are fresh and the rice was minimal so I think it is fair pricing. There’s a variety of fresh sashimi in the roll including uni, Blue Fin tuna chutoro, Ora King salmon and amaebi. The ikura on top was a lovely fresh component. I would highly suggest trying this roll out.

Overall, the food I tried was very delicious. I cannot wait to be back to try their other rolls. I would also come back to purchase their frozen foods as the sashimi looks well portioned and fresh. Check it out today!
