Hangari Kalguksu – Best Handmade Noodles in Koreatown LA

Hangari Kalguksu - Best Handmade Noodles in Koreatown LA

When I was asking around for restaurant recommendations for my LA trip, the common thread was ‘Korean food’. One of the most popular suggestions was Hangari Kalguksu in Koreatown. This unfussy spot features such classic comfort Korean food. While the prices are slightly higher than I would expect for such homey food, the portion sizes here are no joke. We ordered one bowl for each person and it was definitely too much. I would suggest ordering a couple items to share so you can get a good taste of all the dishes to offer. Check out my full review of Hangari Kalguksu below.

Hangari Kalguksu – Handmade Noodles, Bossam and More!

For our visit we got:

  • Chicken Kalguksu ($18.99)
  • Kimchi Sujebi ($20.99)
  • Bibim Milmyun ($17.99)

The Chicken Kalguksu features knife cut noodles soup chicken and anchovy broth. The broth is on the thicker side and very homey. The red dates are a nice touch, and add a bit of sweetness to the dish. The noodle texture is just perfect – slightly chewy. A very comforting dish!

I’ve been looking forward to having the Kimchi Sujebi for a really long time and this bowl didn’t disappoint. This dish features hand torn noodles with clams and kimchi bean sprout soup. The broth was spicy and flavourful and the noodles were perfectly cooked. This was everything I remember sujebi to be and this portion was never ending.

As it was quite a warm day in LA, we also got the Bibim Milmyun. This is a famous Busan style cold noodle mixed in a spicy and sweet sauce. Like the other two dishes, the noodle texture was perfect and the spicy and sweet sauce was very appetizing. This is the perfect hot weather dish.

We were way to full this time to try their famous bossam but every table around us had an order of this. They have small, medium and large sizes but if you go on a weekday they have a mini bossam plate that comes with red kimchi, white kimchi, jalapeños, garlic, two sauces, rice, and soup! It is only available from 10am – 3pm from Monday to Friday only.

Worth a Try?

Yes! I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch here and wish I had a bigger stomach! This spot was incredibly popular as we came by at 3 PM and there was a mini queue to get a table. The service was quick but friendly and the food came out super quick. I highly recommend you check out this spot the next time you’re in LA.
