Haru Korean Kitchen

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of Korean food. If I had to pick one dish that I’m currently obsessed with that would be Kimchi Jjigae (김치찌개). So when I heard that a new Korean restaurant opened near my office, I knew I just had to check it out.

What I ate: Small starter green salad (comes with meal)

What we ate: Kimchi Fried Noodle ($12) and Kimchi Stew ($13)

L had the noodle and she said it was very filling. She asked for it to be super spicy, but I guess they were worried that it would be too spicy for her so she felt the dish was a bit too mild for her personally.

I had the Kimchi Stew and it was a decent rendition. I liked that it was served with multigrain rice. It was one of the most expensive Kimchi Stews I’ve ever had, so I was definitely expecting it to blow me away and unfortunately it didn’t. There was a very strong tomato flavour to this stew which I wasn’t used to. It wasn’t bad, but it was different.

The service was really good, the server (I think it might have been the owners?) were very prompt with tea refills and checking in on us (how we liked the dish, if we needed anything else etc.)

The restaurant itself has a very light and airy feel, which is very different from most Korean restaurants.

As much as I wanted to love this restaurant, the prices are on the higher end, and I know I can get better Korean food for much less on the West End.

I went when they first opened, so maybe they are still working out some kinks, so I think I’ll be back for a second try.
