Miko Sushi

I have walked past this restaurant hundreds of times and I’ve never bothered to even give it a second glance because I just assumed that it was a Chinese run/hole-in-the-wall Japanese restaurant. Granted, I love me some inauthentic Japanese food (I low key love Sushi Garden/California) but nothing ever really drew me in to Miko Sushi. But this is a case of ‘never judge a book by its cover’, because this place was amazing!

M and I met up for dinner and he suggested we check out Miko. I had never been, so I was down to try. Imagine my surprise when I walked into one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants in Vancouver! We were lucky to get one of the last tables without a reservation. The restaurant is very small, and it seems that reservations are a must.

What I ate: Ochazuke with Salmon and Ikura

Ochazuke is one of my most beloved Japanese dishes, and this is the first time that I’ve seen it at a restaurant in Vancouver. This was so comforting and delicious! The ikura added a bright burst of sea flavour to every bite!

What I ate: Ika Maruyaki ($8.95)

This was a very nice BBQ squid! I would like it a bit saucier, but if you’re not a fan of sauce this was a very delicate version.

I regret not coming here sooner! All the dishes I had were carefully prepared and fresh tasting. I adored the ochazuke and I will definitely be back again soon to try the other renditions!
