Peaceful Restaurant

Whenever I’m craving Chinese food Downtown, the closest place to my office is Peaceful. I don’t find their food particularly good, but it does the job, which is why I keep coming back. Of all the times I’ve been here I’d say about 30% of the time I go away with a mildly upset stomach…

What I ate: Chili Garlic Sauce Shredded Pork with bamboo and woodear mushroom on multigrain rice ($7.95)

During lunch hours (11 am – 3 pm) they have really good lunch specials. All typical chinese dishes with rice for less than $10. If you eat in, it comes with a bowl of soup (which I personally do not recommend because it tastes like cornstarch msg water).

This is my go to dish here. It’s got good flavour and the portion is very generous. The only downside is that the rice they serve it on is usually on the colder side (like rice that has been sitting out for awhile).

What I ate: Dan dan noodles with hand sheared noodles – spicy, tangy peanut sauce, minced pork and spinach ($7.95)

My friend was too busy at work so I ordered this for them to eat. This was not very good at all. The noodles were all clumped together and there wasn’t enough sauce/soup to go over everything. I would not get this again.

Would I come back? Probably. It’s not the greatest restaurant, in fact I’d put it as below average, but it does get the job done and their lunch pricing can’t be beat.
