[Dine Out Vancouver] Wildebeest #DOVF

I recently had dinner at Wildebeest, and it was absolutely amazing. So, even before the Dine Out Vancouver menus were released, I knew I had to make a reservation for their $45 Dine Out Vancouver dinner menu.

It was extremely busy when I arrived for my 8:30PM reservation with S. The restaurant even turned away people with no reservations. So, definitely make a reservation if you’re planning to go! Please note that their full dinner menu is not available during Dine Out.

Wedge Salad – Iceberg lettuce, herb emulsion, toasted hazelnuts, pears, shaved radish & heirloom carrots, spiced maple granola

S went with the salad and he seemed to enjoy it. All the components worked well together and the granola added a nice crunch.

Tuna Tartare – Line-caught Pacific yellowfin tuna, kimchi mayo, hakurei turnips, wonton cracker

This was my choice for appetizer and I loved it! The tuna was fresh and the kimchi mayo was so silky and smooth! It complemented the tartare really well, and I wish there was more! The crisps were perfectly fried and worked well with the tartare.

Cache Creek Flat Iron Steak – Grilled flat iron, smoked buttermilk mash potatoes, squash pureé, huckleberry jus

BEST. ENTREE. EVER. S and I both got the steak as our main and it was AMAZING. I cannot rave about this dish enough. The steak was perfectly cooked and ate like butter. The mashed potatoes from Wildebeest are always on point, and they didn’t disappoint this time.

S very astutely pointed out the reason why I love this mash so much is because it tasted like a mashed baked potato.

The carrots were pickled and went well with the rest of the dish. I hope they add this to their regular menu!

Fig & Chocolate – Chocolate silk cake, fig jam, brandy-soaked figs, fig leaf yogurt, cocoa nibs

This was my choice for dessert and unfortunately I was not a fan. The dessert itself was fine, but I just wasn’t a fan of the flavours. The cake tasted like chocolate pudding – very smooth and not too sweet, but the accompaniments just didn’t work for me. The yogurt was much too sour, and the figs were just brandy bombs.

Milk & Lemon – Hazelnut sponge cake, milk & lemon mousse, lemon meringue, hazelnut tuile

This was S’s choice, and I liked it a lot more. The mousse ate like a panna cotta and the lemon flavour gave a bright burst of citrus flavour to every bight.

Overall I had an amazing experience. The chocolate dessert fell a little bit flat for me personally, but everything else was spectacular. The entree was perfectly executed and I hope they put it on their permanent menu!

Dine Our Vancouver ends in two days so make your reservation as soon as possible! Even if you can’t make it for the set menu, this restaurant cannot be missed!
