Every season, The Trump Champagne Lounge introduces a fabulous and inspired afternoon tea set. This season is inspired by head pastry chef, Fumiko Moreton‘s hometown of Japan. The Sakura Afternoon Tea is available from March 18 – May 19.
Sakura Afternoon Tea ($65.00 per person) – features a selection of savoury and sweet selections with scones
The Sakura Afternoon Tea features the following:
Savoury Selections
Salmon and Ikura Chirashi-sushi – The presentation of this was so cute! There’s a large shrimp on top, and egg shreds underneath the salmon. The sushi rice was perfectly seasoned and cooked. I wish I could have ordered this a la carte!
Cucumber & Radish Tea Sandwich – Beautifully presented with thinly sliced cucumber and radishes, but the bread was dry and stale.
Oyster Motoyaki – this was a deliciously done motayaki with the perfect amount of sauce.
Deep Fried Octopus Takoyaki – another delicious savoury bite!
Spicy Duck Crepes – of all the savouries, this was my least favourite because it was quite salty. I think if they used less sauce in this crepe the flavour profile would be better.
Sweet Desserts
Sakura Macaron – a delicate pink macaron with a sakura filling and a pickled sakura flower for decoration. Beautifully done.
Sakura Panna Cotta – this was my favourite dessert. The white portion had a strong vanilla flavour and the sakura gelĂ©e added a nice floral component.
Matcha Roll Cake – This was another standout for me. The matcha flavour was very strong, which I like. The mochi on top was a nice addition for textural contrast.
Mini Doughnut – this is one of the prettiest doughnuts I’ve ever seen. It was slightly chewy and the glaze wasn’t too sweet.
Sakura Puff – another beautiful dessert. The choux was executed perfectly and the gold leaf and sakura decorations made for a lovely dessert.
Cherry Blossom Cookie Pop – your standard sugar cookie upgraded with some beautiful pink frosting!
Scones
Black Sesame Scone
Cherry & White Chocolate Scone
Matcha Scone
Condiments: Homemade Clotted Cream, Lemon Curd, Strawberry & Rhubarb Jam
The scones as always, were light and fluffy. My personal favourite this time was the cherry and white chocolate scone because I’m a huge fan of maraschino cherries!
A close up look at some of my favourites from this high tea.
For an additional cost you can order the bird cage version as detailed below.
Sakura Afternoon Tea served in a bird cage with an additional box of assorted macaron and glass of sparkling ($118.00 per person)
The takeaway box of pink macarons and matcha sandwich cookies are absolutely exquisite. Each macaron is hand painted with sakura flowers, and the sandwich cookies are finished with gold leaf! A box of treats like this would set you back $30-40 at any high end patisserie, so I would definitely say the $118 is a nice way to treat yourself.
