Mayak Eggs – Korean Marinated Egg Recipe

Ever since the start of quarantine, I’ve really taken to the kitchen. I’ve been baking up a storm and trying to add more recipes to my cooking repertoire. One source of inspiration for me is always Instagram. Every time I see a gorgeous photo, I want to recreate it right away. A current trending dish is – mayak eggs. Mayak means drug in Korean, and these are definitely addictive. But don’t worry, no drugs in this recipe – just tons of garlic and green onions! It goes best with a steaming hot bowl of rice and a side of kimchi. A simple meal that cannot be beat! This Korean mayak egg recipe is simple to make and will keep for up to a week.

Because this recipe is so simple, it is essential you use the best eggs you can find. Follow my instructions on how to soft boil eggs here. While the eggs are cooking, start by chopping up your green onion, garlic, and white onion.

In a container (depends on how many eggs you’re making) combine your liquid ingredients and stir to combine before adding the aromatics. Once your eggs are done, peel them and add it to your container. Cover with plastic wrap and a lid and let sit overnight. Serve with rice!

I’m always on the look out for new recipes to cook, and this one is definitely a keeper. I’ve been experimenting more with different cuisines, and trying to recreate some of my favourite restaurant favourites. While I miss eating out, I guess this was a small silver lining!
