Grandma Liu Hot Pot – Individual Hot Pot in Burnaby

Richmond favourite – Grandma Liu Hot Pot – has just opened their newest location in Burnaby. Grandma Liu Hot Pot specializes in individual hot pots. This style of restaurant is very popular in Asia, but there isn’t a lot of options in Vancouver. The concept is simple – first you pick the ingredients you want, you pay by weight and then the kitchen will cook it up for you. There is a ton of options to choose from. I like that you can pick as much or as little ingredients as you want.

You can choose different heat levels, as well as the option to add sesame paste and garlic. Rice is extra for $1.50 and is self serve.

The hot pot is brought to your table pipping hot. For me, I like to pick a lot of vegetables as they are lighter and I feel like I’m getting more bang for my buck. But two must get items are: the roe filled fish balls and mochi cheese fish stick. It costs $3.33 per 100g. My bowl was approximately $15 and it was the perfect size for me. However, you need to be careful when you’re picking your ingredients because it does start to add up!

Grandma Liu Hot Pot individual hot pot in Burnaby

It was a very satisfying hot pot. It was spicy and warming – perfect for the rainy Vancouver weather. Grandma Liu Hot Pot is the perfect addition to Kingsway.

Grandma Liu Hot Pot is currently in their soft open phase. They only accept cash and e-transfer at their Burnaby location. This is a very self serve type of restaurant so you will need to get your own cutlery and drinks.
