Riley’s Fish & Steak – Must Try Brunch in Downtown Vancouver

One of my favourite meals is brunch, because I can get breakfast-esque food at lunch time without being judged, or having to wake up early. I went by Riley’s over the weekend to indulge in a delicious brunch. It was a nice and leisurely affair with some very good live music. I highly recommend you check out Riley’s if you’re looking for a brunch spot in Downtown Vancouver. My full review of Riley’s Fish & Steak brunch menu is below!

Riley’s Fish & Steak – Soups and Salads

To start of our meal we had:

Riley's Fish & Steak - Must Try Brunch in Downtown Vancouver Seafood chowder in sourdough bread bowl

The Seafood Chowder is served in a sourdough bread bowl and features smoked bacon, mixed seafood and spring vegetables. The bowl was nice and crisp on the inside and the chowder was warm and comforting. I really like this dish! The sourdough ‘lid’ also has some melted cheese on top and was perfect for dipping into the thick chowder.

Riley's Fish & Steak - Must Try Brunch in Downtown Vancouver louie salad with lump crab, soft boiled egg and avocado

The Louie Salad features lump crab, baby gem lettuce, avocado, soft poached egg, onion rings and thousand island dressing. This salad was refreshing from the fresh lettuce and I like the crunch of the thin onion rings. A solid refreshing start to brunch!

Riley’s Fish & Steak – Brunch Menu

For our mains we went with:

Riley's Fish & Steak - Must Try Brunch in Downtown Vancouver Smoked Salmon Rosti

The Smoked Salmon Rosti features cedar smoked salmon, avocado, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. When I previously dined here, I found the rosti to be quite mushy, but this time it was perfectly executed. The exterior was super crunchy (in the best way). The salmon, egg and hollandaise sauce is a classic combo, and overall this was a delicious dish. Would recommend!

Riley's Fish & Steak - Must Try Brunch in Downtown Vancouver Chocolate Bread Pudding French Toast

The Chocolate Bread Pudding French Toast features crème anglaise, candied walnuts, brulee banana, maple syrup and berries. I’m not a fan of bananas, so I didn’t try this, but Trudy enjoyed it! Visually, another very pretty dish.

Riley’s Fish & Steak – Lobster Feature Brunch Menu

I can’t resist lobster, so when I saw the Lobster feature menu I knew I had to try a couple items:

Riley's Fish & Steak - Must Try Brunch in Downtown Vancouver Lobster & Chanterelle Mushroom Omelet

The stars of brunch were definitely the Lobster feature dishes. The Lobster & Chanterelle Mushroom Omelet was excellent. The omelet was filled with a lobster and chanterelle mushrooms and the accompanying lobster bisque sauce was incredibly flavourful.

Riley's Fish & Steak - Must Try Brunch in Downtown Vancouver Lobster Roll

The Lobster Roll is one of the best I’ve had in Vancouver and it has dethroned my previous favourite. The pretzel bun was crusty on the outside and warm on the inside. It was a perfect vehicle for the creamy Atlantic lobster mixture. The avocado was a nice touch, and the dill slaw was a great crunchy element. A stellar lobster roll that I will definitely get again!

Worth a Try?

Yes! So far I have had both dinner and happy hour at Riley’s Fish and Steak and I think their brunch menu is my favourite of all my experiences. Every dish we had at brunch was very delicious and I think the lobster roll is a must try item. The service was very friendly, and the live music at brunch was a very nice touch.
