Guulu Cafe Burnaby – Cute Egg Shape Taiyaki (Eggyaki) Near Metrotown

There’s a brand new cafe on Kingsway that you need to check out. Guulu Cafe Burnaby specializes in Taiyaki that is shaped like eggs aka ‘Eggyaki’. These cute cakes are filled with a variety of fillings and to go with the egg theme they are also served in egg cartons! This treat is almost too cute to eat! If you’re not familiar with Taiyaki, it is a popular Japanese street food. This fish shaped cake is usually filled with a red bean paste that is made from sweetened adzuki beans. Other common fillings are custard, chocolate, or sweet potato.

Guulu Cafe also serves a variety of drinks to go with their eggyaki. Check out the full menu below. In addition to regular milk and fruit teas, they also have a variety of specialty drinks like “Dusk Till Dawn” which is the very trendy Orange Americano.

Guulu Cafe Burnaby – Eggyaki Flavours

The Eggyaki comes in 4 flavours at Guulu Cafe – Custard, Nutella, Taro and Mochi. You can purchase them individually for $1.89 per piece, or as a box of 6. Do note that the cute carton packaging only applies for orders of 6 or more. You can also mix and match for $10.99 a box.

The Eggyaki have a nice soft cake exterior and are generously filled. My personal favourite was the Nutella, but is on the sweeter side. All of the flavours overall were very delicious. The mochi one had a nice chew, and it was a good textural contrast to the softer eggy cake.

On this visit I didn’t get the chance to try their very beautiful drinks, but they all sound so intriguing that I know I will be back soon! Guulu Cafe takes over the former Tiger Sugar on Kingsway across from Metrotown.
