Bar Haifa – New Spot for Middle Eastern Brunch in Downtown Vancouver

Bar Haifa is fairly new Palestinian & Israeli concept serving up Middle Eastern cusiine in Downtown Vancouver. They recently introduced their brunch service which is available Friday to Sunday. I saw their Instagram ad for brunch and I was instantly enamoured. I made my way to the gorgeous new Deloitte Summit tower (across the street from the Vancouver Public Library) on a sunny Saturday to try out their new brunch dishes. Check out my full review of Bar Haifa’s brunch menu below!

Bar Haifa – New Brunch Menu

We decided to get a few savoury items and a sweet dish to share. We went with

The Shakshuka features a roasted tomato shakshuka, poached eggs, feta, pita. I wanted to try this because my friend has been here for dinner and raved about the pita. The pita was in fact like biting in to a cloud. The shakshuka was fairly standard but I would recommend trying other dishes.

The Malawach Fried Chicken was the dish that caught my eye and spoiler alert, it was as incredible as I imagined it to be. It features malawach, smoked labneh, 2 pc fried chicken, 2 poached eggs, serrano relish, date syrup, honey butter harissa. The chicken was so juicy with the perfect crunch. I love spicy food and this hit all the right notes.

The honey butter harissa adds just a touch of sweetness to balance out all the heat. The smoked labneh was so flavourful and I would absolutely want to slather that on everything and eat it. 11/10 you need to get this dish – it is a Vancouver brunch bucket list item for sure!

The Latke & Lox features house latke, herb labneh, lox, pickled red onion, poached egg. All the ingredients on this dish were very good, especially the eggs.

Look at how orange the yolks are! However, the only let down was the latke. I’m not sure if this is how it’s prepared traditionally however it just tasted extremely overfried to me. There was no potato goodness, it was like eating a hard brick of overfried potato shreds.

The Duqqah French Toast features challah french toast, honey & date whipped labneh, house seed duqqah granola, fresh berries, icing sugar. This was heavenly and a great way to end brunch on a sweet note. The french toast was so soft and squishy and full of flavours. Surprisingly the dish wasn’t too sweet overall, I think the labneh really balances out the sweetness of the dish. The French Toast is huge so definitely a great dish to share with friends.

Worth a Try?

Yes! Everything was really good, and the Malawach Fried Chicken is worth it alone. The service was really friendly and the vibe is really chill. The restaurant has gorgeous large windows that let in a lot of light and there is a very laid back vibe overall. It’s a great place for brunch and I love that they also serve it up on Fridays!
