Braidwood Tavern Whistler $39 Prix Fixe Menu – Starters
Braidwood Tavern in Whistler has a cozy, laid back atmosphere serving up pub style fare with a courmet twist. To start there is a plethora of options to choose from:
- Kale Salad – rainbow quinoa, caramelized hazelnut, grapes, cherry tomatoes, orange vinaigrette
- Roasted Parsnip Hummus – avocado, za’atar pita
- Seafood Soup – Cioppino style, local seafood, sourdough
- Prawn Guazzetto – tiger prawn, brew creek farm tomato, capers, Provençal herbs, cured lemon, grilled bread (additional $7)
- Cold Shucked Pacific Oysters – green tomato mignonette, pickled onion, lime (6 pieces additional $10)
I went with the Prawn Guazzetto it was definitely worth the add on. Guazzetto is a southern Italian tomato-based sauce almost always cooked with shellfish. The prawns were so large and plump and perfectly cooked. The tomato sauce had the right amount of zing and the grilled bread was great for eating with all the extra sauce.
Another stunning offering was the Seafood Soup. The soup is poured tableside so you can see all the lovely seafood and bits in the soup. If you’re a seafood lover, this is a must order!
The Oysters were bright and fresh and a great choice if you’re craving a light starter. The presentation was on point as well as the oysters are presented on a beautiful layer of ice and accompained with the bright and flavourful sauces.
Braidwood Tavern Whistler $39 Prix Fixe Menu – Mains
For mains you can choose from the following:
- Potato Leek Ravioli – creamy mushroom purée, pickled chanterelle, truffle essence
- Asian Spiced Salmon- spicy chili sambal, homemade pickled vegetables, and lemongrass herb oildairy free, gluten free
- Seafood Linguine – assorted shellfish, squid ink linguine, chili flakes, Riesling
- Black Cod – Annatto spice, basil coconut cream, herb oil (additional $11)
- Canada Prime Beef Striploin – potato pureé, baby carrot (6oz additional $18)
I went with the Black Cod and it was so delectable. The cod was perfectly cooked and it was so moist and flavourful. The basil coconut cream adds a light creaminess that doesn’t overwhelm the delicate flavours of the black cod.
For the vegetarians the Potato Leek Ravioli is a lovely option. The truffle essence really comes through and the portion of this dish is quite sizeable.
The Seafood Linguine features squid ink linguine and a multitude of shellfish. It was my other choice for lunch, but I was worried about the staining of the pasta on my teeth. However, it doesn’t seem to be an issue to the others who did order it, so if you love seafood and pasta this dish is definitely for you.
Braidwood Tavern Whistler $39 Prix Fixe Menu – Desserts
For dessert there are two options:
- Lemon Honey Mousse – raspberry crémeux , honey gel, lemon chiffon, honeycomb tuile
- Apple Sticky Date Pudding – salted caramel sauce, apple, caramelized apple, ice cream
I can never turn down a sticky date pudding so I obviously had to go with the Apple Sticky Date Pudding. This dessert was absolutely divine. It is the epitome of a fall dessert – warm and comforting to my core. I was full to the brim, but this dessert definitely was welcome in my stomach!
If you’re looking for a lighter ending the Lemon Honey Mousse is also a beautiful dessert with a not too sweet raspberry crémeux and a tart lemon chiffon.
Worth a Try?
Absolutely! This menu is an incredible value for the quality and quantity of food. Braidwood Tavern has cozy indoor seating, but also a beautiful outdoor patio space with large fire pits. It’s a great spot for lunch in Whistler and one that cannot be missed on your next try to Whistler!
