Frost & Fable Pop Up Speakeasy – Food Menu
I got a sneak peek of this brand new pop up ahead of their official grand opening on February 7th. On my visit I had the opportunity to try:
- Ice Cave Ice Bowl ($48.00)
- Fire Torched Fried Chicken ($18.00)
- Calamari ($15.00)
As this was a media event, I believe the portion sizes are smaller. The Ice Cave Ice Bowl features 6 oysters, 6 prawns, tuna tartare, wasabi cocktail sauce, honey yuja mignonette, lemon taro chips. The oysters were very refreshing as they are dressed with pomelo, honey yuja citrus mignonette, kumquats and ginger. The Tuna Tartare packs quite a pucnh with a salsa matcha aioli and avocado.
The Fire Torched Fried Chicken features motoyaki sauce, duck fat chili caramel glaze, pickles. The duck fat glaze adds a delightfully rich flavour to the chicken and the pickles help to balance everything out.
The Calamari features jalapenos, sweet onions, wasabi ume aioli, yuzu tobiko, chili threads. I really enjoy the wasabi ume aioli and yuzu tobiko. It onions were a little bit excessive but it does pair well overall with the dish.
Frost & Fable Pop Up Speakeasy – Cocktails
Our first cocktail was a refreshing Hatsukari ($20.00). This cocktail is a bright kumquat and plum wine cocktail with a touch of botanical gin and burnt pomelo.
Our next cocktail was the Firebrand Marg ($19.00). It was a smokey and spicy take on a classic margarita. The Cabbage infused Mezcal mixed with the lime causes a reaction making the drink a brilliant vibrant pink.
To end our evening on a sweeter note we finished with the Viridis Velvet ($20.00). A smooth and creamy cocktail made with matcha and Irish whiskey infused cream, Licor 43, lavender bitters, strawberries and rose petals.
Worth a Try?
This is a fun and unique take on a speakeasy that is different from what we have seen previously in Vancouver. The space is quite dark with lots of ‘ice’ elements. This spot would be a fun experience for a small group of friends. The food options were quite tasty!
