Meat and Bread

Meat and Bread first opened in 2010 in Gastown, since then they have since expanded to several locations, including their newest shop on Robson. They are known for their signature Porchetta sandwich, but this week I stopped by to try our their limited edition Reuben Sandwich.

From April 11-13, instead of having their signature Porchetta carve, Meat & Bread will be carving up their own house made Pastrami to craft their Reuben Sandwich.

The Reuben sandwich will be available at all 3 Vancouver locations as well as the Meat and Bread Test Kitchen in Abbotsford, their Seattle location and their Calgary location.

The Reuben sandwich will be available at the beginning of each day for as long as supplies last.

Reuben Sandwich – house made pastrami carved to order, rye bread with sauerkraut, gruyere fondue, Russian dressing and spicy pickles ($15.00)

This is my first experience with a Reuben and I was blown away. I loved how the smokiness of the meat worked the tartness of the sauerkraut and the cheesy richness from the gruyere. Because the sandwich is finished in a panini press the outside is perfectly toasted and crispy, and all the insides are melted and delicious.

This was definitely a messy sandwich to eat, but everything worked so perfectly together. I would highly recommend everyone to try and get their hands on this before it’s gone!
