With the heat dome finally behind us, I feel like I can finally breathe again! Having lived my whole life so far in Vancouver, I have never had to feel this kind of heat or humidity (even when travelling to Asia!) I spent the majority of those four days with ice packs on my body and plenty of cold water. Even though it’s much cooler these days (relatively!), summer is definitely here. What better way to enjoy it then with some delicious ice cream? Matcha Cafe Maiko in Richmond has just brought in a strawberry soft serve and it is a must try. For a limited time you can order this with their signature matcha flavour. Matcha Cafe Maiko’s Strawberry Matcha ice cream is the perfect summer treat.
I was in Richmond on the weekend, so I had to try this delicious treat. I tried their Matcha Ujikintoki (Green Tea Shaved Ice) with the addition of a strawberry matcha ice cream swirl. The strawberry flavour was really strong (all natural flavour) and went really well with the slightly bitter matcha. It was pretty hot, so the dessert did melt quite quickly, so make sure you have extra napkins!
The red bean paste was not too sweet, and the mochi was perfectly chewy and springy. This definitely brought me back to hot summers in Kyoto. You can add a housemade strawberry sauce for just $0.50. If you are not a fan of matcha, you can get the strawberry soft serve on its own.
If you’re in Richmond, definitely give this delicious ice cream a try before it’s gone.
