It’s no secret I am a big fan of Torafuku. They do Pan-Asian food in such a unique and refined way. They are always coming up with new menu items and they never disappoint. For Dine Out Vancouver they will be doing a $59 multi course menu for 2. If you have an odd number of guests they can choose a dish from course 2 or 3 and a dish from course 4 and 5. For Dine Out Vancouver the menu is available for dine in and take out.
Torafuku Cocktails
The cocktail menu at Torafuku is outstanding. They have such a great selection of cocktails to choose from and the staff are so knowledgeable about the menu. I always ask for their recommendations depending on my mood and the cocktails they pick always hit the mark. This time we had:
- People’s Cocktail ($14.00) – Beefeater Gin, cucumber, elderflower, ginger, lemon
- Yuzu Lemon Soda ($7.00) – Japanese yuzu, lemon, Japanese green tea syrup, soda
Both drinks were light and refreshing and a really great way to start the meal.
Torafuku Dine Out Vancouver Menu – Starters
The first course is Crispy fried rice with a choice of condiments. To condiments are:
- Foie gras parfait – Brome Lake duck foie gras, red onion marmalade, chives
- Tuna tartare – BC Albacore tuna, ginger white soy dressing
- Baba Ghanoush – charred eggplant, lemon
We went with the Foie Gras parfait and I cannot recommend it enough. The foie gras parfait had so much umami flavour and the red onion marmalade had the perfect tart contrast to the rich and fatty foie. A strong start to the meal!
Next we had a Vegetable course. You can choose from:
- Kale salad – mixed kale, buttermilk dressing, crispy quinoa, pickled shallot
- Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli – balsamic vinaigrette, black bean, almond
- Squash salad – roasted delicata squash, guanciale, sherry gastrique
All the vegetable dishes are excellent. It’s so hard to choose but I love the Kale Salad. It’s a hefty portion of kale with a deliciously tart and creamy dressing. The crispy quinoa is a great textural contrast and the pickled shallot adds a nice touch of acidity to the dish.
The third course is served at the same time as the vegetables. For the appetizers you get to choose from:
- Mussel – nduja sausage, black vinegar
- Kanpachi crudo – New Zealand kanpachi, charred scallion ginger dressing, cucumber
- Chicken wings – General Tao sauce, grilled broccolini, radish
We went with the Kanpachi crudo and it was very fresh. I have never had kanpachi with scallion and green ginger and it works surprisingly well! It is reminiscent of a Hainanese Chicken dish.
Torafuku Dine Out Vancouver Menu – Main Course and Desserts
For your main course there are three choices:
- Ling cod – napa cabbage, wood ear mushroom, satay
- Magic mushroom 2.0 – Korean rice cakes, napa cabbage, roasted mushroom, shio koji
- Striploin – Sichuan mapo sauce, egg tofu
Each main comes with two slices of pain au lait and cultured butter. We went with the Striploin and it is a hefty serving. The sauce was surprisingly not as spicy as I thought. I like the addition of the egg tofu, the silkiness adds a next textural contrast to the dish.
The pain au lait here is amazing. It is so soft and fluffy and the cultured butter is fantastic. I could definitely eat an entire loaf of this bread and butter in one sitting.
To end the meal there are two desserts:
- Dark chocolate ganache – fresh berries
- Earl Grey white chocolate ganache – fresh berries
The ganache is very rich, decadent and thick. I love the crispy crust at the bottom! It’s a great end to a delicious meal.
There is also an option to add their famous Basque Cheesecake ($16.00), and I highly recommend you do so. It is one of the best Basque cheesecakes in town. The cheesecake is so creamy and there’s just a hint of lemon that really balances the richness of the cheesecake.
