Raisu’s Omakase Uni Zukushi is a Uni Lover’s Dream

It is no secret that I am a huge fan of Raisu. I love their enclosed patio space, casual vibe and delicious fresh dishes. They craft the most intricate sashimi bowls and are constantly creating innovative dishes on their menu. Whenever uni (sea urchin) is in season, Raisu will offer their Omakase Uni Zukushi special course menu. This menu is available on a first come first serve basis and cannot be preordered. It is $135 for 2 people and $207 for 3 people.

Must Try Omakase Uni Zukushi at Raisu

The Omakase Uni Zakushi includes: Uni Shooter, Uni Sashimi, Uni Temaki Sushi, Uni Tofu, Uni and Wagyu Aburi Nigiri Sushi, Spicy Lobster Uni Cream Udon and Uni and Snow Crab Hitsumabushi. Raisu’s Omakase Uni Zukushi features a lot of uni, so it’s perfect for uni lovers like me!

Raisu Omakase Uni Zukushi – Appetizers

Raisu Omakase Uni Zukushi - Appetizers Uni Shooter features uni, ikura, mountain yam, quail egg and dashi ponzu truffle jelly.

To start off there is a bevy of appetizers to whet the appetite. The Uni Shooter features uni, ikura, mountain yam, quail egg and dashi ponzu truffle jelly.

Next is Uni and Otoro Blue Fin Tuna Sashimi which is simply uni and Otoro on its own with seaweed. The uni is so sweet and fresh! The Otoro was glistening from how fatty and unctuous it was.

Raisu Omakase Uni Zukushi Uni Temaki Sushi features uni, snow crab, ikura and scallop

Next is one of their signature items Uni Temaki Sushi. This decadent hand roll features uni, snow crab, ikura and scallop. This is one of my favourite hand rolls. The rice is slightly warm and it goes so well with the fresh sushi. You need to eat this one right away so that the seaweed is still crispy!

Next is the Uni Tofu. Tofu is mixed with uni and then topped with snow crab and ikura. It was so delicate and creamy!

Raisu Omakase Uni Zukushi Uni and Wagyu Aburi Nigiri Sushi

There is an option to add Uni and Wagyu Aburi Nigiri Sushi ($20 for 2 pieces) and I highly recommend that you do. It is such a luxurious bite. Uni balances delicately on top of a thin sheet of wagyu beef that is torched table side. It is so decadent and rich.

Raisu Omakase Uni Zukushi – Main Course

The menu for 2 includes your choice of (for 3 people you get both):

Raisu Omakase Uni Zukushi Spicy Lobster Uni Cream Udon which features a huge lobster tail, uni spicy creamy soup and Sanuki style udon noodles.

I have had the Spicy Lobster Uni Cream Udon a few times and it comes in an impressively large bowl, however the portion size is just normal. The Uni cream soup is very savoury and coats each udon noodle.

Raisu Omakase Uni Zukushi Uni and Snow Crab Hitsumabushi features snow crab and ikura served on top of rice in a sizzling hot stone bowl.

The Uni and Snow Crab Hitsumabushi has a nice crispy rice bottom from the hot stone bowl which I love. There is plenty of ikura which adds a nice saltiness to the dish. It definitely helps break up the richness of the uni. Both dishes are solid, so it really comes down to if you are a noodle or a rice person!

Raisu Omakase Uni Zukushi – Dessert

To end the meal is a nice refreshing scoop of housemade Yuzu gelato. It is nice and tart and helps cleanse the palette after a decadent meal.

Worth a Try?

Yes! For $125 for 2 people there is a lot of uni on this menu! You definitely need to love uni to enjoy this menu as it is the star of the whole meal. My favourites are the Uni Sashimi, the Uni Temaki Sushi, Uni and Wagyu Aburi Nigiri Sushi and the Hitsumabushi. Overall, everything was very tasty. The service was friendly and the patio was heated and covered so it wasn’t too chilly.
