Sometimes the tastiest food can be found in the most unexpected of places. Olivo Cafe & Eatery definitely fits the bill for ‘hidden gem’! This small and unassuming cafe hidden inside an industrial area is serving up Mexican brunch, lunch and soon dinner! Starting July 15, they will be having dinner service. They will be open until 10 PM daily with all day breakfast, tacos and more! Over the weekend I got to sample a wide variety of their signature dishes. Check out my full review of Olivo Cafe & Eatery below!
Olivo Cafe & Eatery – Mexican Brunch and Tacos
There is so many options to choose from at Olivo Cafe & Eatery. They have such a wide variety of brunch dishes to choose from but we tried:
- Chilaquiles
- Carnitas Egg Benedict
The Chilaquiles features homemade cheese and tomato salsa, homemade tortilla chips, sour cream, feta cheese, two sunny side up eggs and a side of beans and rice (can add avocado!). This was a very decadent way to start the meal! I like how everything is homemade and you can really taste the love and care that goes into this dish.
The Carnitas Egg Benedict features their house special pork carnitas and poached egg on English muffin with hollandaise. It comes with a side of hash browns and salad. The carnitas was very flavourful and definitely the star of the dish. The hollandaise was restrained and didn’t overwhelm the rest of the dish. The poached eggs were perfectly done.
New on the menu (starting July 15) is Shrimp Tacos and Asada Tacos. My family and I are huge fans of the tacos! My favourite was definitely the shrimp tacos. The shrimp was nice and bounch with just a hint of spice. The spicy mayo adds a nice creamy component and the cabbage is nice and refreshing to the spicy flavours.
Quesabirria, Quesabirria Ramen, and More!
The two dishes you must order are the Quesabirria and the Quesabirria Ramen. It was the unanimous favourite of the day. Both dishes are so full of flavour! There is so much flavourful beef in the dishes and the consommé is just overflowing with flavour without being too salty.
The Chicken Enchiladas were another table favourite. There was so much moist and juicy chicken packed into this dish and the sauce was so flavourful.
Olivo Cafe & Eatery – Croffles
To end things on a sweet note we also got to indulge in some delicious Croffles! If you haven’t heard of these delectable sweets they are a cross between a croissant and a waffle! Croffle has a texture of a croissant but shaped like a waffle. For our visit we had:
- Churros Croffle
- Oreo Croffle
Both weren’t too sweet (and Chinese parents approved!). I like how crisp the exterior was with the flakey and buttery insides. The churros one was my favourite because the cinnamon sugar just goes so well with the buttery croissant layers.
Worth a Try?
Yes! Even though this spot is a bit off the beaten path they were quite busy on a Sunday afternoon. I love that there are so many different options for breakfast/brunch as well as coffee and non-espresso drinks to choose from. You can tell so much love and care go into each dish and service is so friendly! It’s an order at the front and find a seat kind of place, but a server will come drop off your food for you. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating so definitely check this spot out! I can definitely see why this spot is so highly rated on Google with an impressive 4.8 stars.
