Koreana Restaurant is a brand new Korean restaurant in Coquitlam. This homey spot has a large and airy interior dining space as well as an outdoor patio! The patio is the place to be this Summer, because there is nothing more satisfying than indulging in hot soup in the hot weather. Pair that with some soju bombs and you’ve got the perfect Summer night. There are a lot of menu items that Koreana offers that you don’t generally see in Vancouver, so I was very excited to check it out. However, my bad food luck still exists and the two items I wanted to try the most was unavailable the day I went. Nonetheless, the dishes I did manage to order were quite tasty. Check out my full review of Koreana restaurant below.
Koreana Restaurant – Main Dishes and Soup
For our dinner we went with:
- Spicy Stew With Ham, Sausage, Kimchi, Rice Cake And Instant Noodle Hot Pot (aka Budae Jjigae)
- Spicy Rice Cake With Fishcake, Boiled Egg, Vegetables
- Boiled Pork With A Salty Sauce And Wrapped In Vegetables (Bossam)
The Budae Jjigae ($37.95) is a hefty portion meant for 2-3 persons, but it can probably feed 4 comfortably. The soup base was rich and thick and very flavourful. This was a solid rendition, and I would definitely order this again. The presentation could definitely use some work though as usually the ingredients are laid out a lot nicer at other restaurants.
The Bossam ($38.95) was definitely the star of the night. The pork was fatty and tender and I adore all the sides that came with it. My favourite way to eat this is to use one of the radish slices, and top with the pork, kimchi, sliver of garlic and jalapeno and some ssamjang. It almost rivals my favourite rendition at Zoomak.
The miss of the night was definitely the Spicy Rice Cake ($12.95). It was incredibly sweet and we left this pretty much untouched. The rice cakes were cooked well, but the sauce was a miss.
Worth a Try?
If you’re in the area, it’s a nice restaurant to check out. I really like dining on the patio and it’s not something you get to do often at a Korean restaurant. We had driven out here specifically to try some dishes that I don’t see often, so it was definitely disappointing that both dishes were unavailable the day that I went. However, the dishes we did order were generally solid, so it’s a good neighbourhood spot for sure.
