Tendon Kohaku is expanding fast and furious and I’m not mad about it. They first opened in Downtown Vancouver and have since opened several outposts throughout the Lower Mainland. I’m a frequent visitor of their North Burnaby location, but their newest location at Station Square is a great spot for post shopping eats. For their grand opening on August 26th they will have a special BOGO 50% off bowls promotion. Check out my full review of Tendon Kohaku Metrotown below!
Tendon Kohaku Metrotown – Restaurant Space
As with all their locations, Tendon Kohaku Metrotown features a gorgeous light wood aesthetic with a bright and airy space. The tables are well spaced so you don’t feel cramped while eating. I really like the high wood beams which really help to enlarge the restaurant space. There is a good mix of tables for small to large groups.
Tendon Kohaku Metrotown – Menu
The menu is fairly standard at the Tendon Kohaku locations, but I see some unique appetizers I haven’t seen at other locations before. Check out the full menu with prices below.
Tendon Kohaku Metrotown – Tempura Bowls, Udon and more!
I came by to try the menu before their official grand opening. To start we had:
- Nagoya Chicken Wings ($12.45)
- Kabocha Salad ($4.95)
- Ikura Hand Roll ($7.75)
The Nagoya Chicken Wings are nice and crispy and I like that it includes both the wing and drumette and wing tip. The Kabocha Salad features smashed Japanese pumpkin topped with mixed seeds. It’s so simple but so flavourful. It is a must order for me!
The Ikura Hand Roll is simply just rice, ikura and tobiko on seaweed and I am obsessed with this hand roll and I get it every time. The rice is perfectly cooked and the saltiness of the ikura pairs so well with it.
For our mains we went with:
- Kaisen Don ($16.75)
- Kohaku Udon ($19.50)
- Anago Tendon ($22.95)
Before you judge me for ordering sashimi at a tempura restaurant you need to try it! The Kaisen Don here is so good and I always get it! It features rice, kaisen sauce, tuna, salmon, scallop, ikura, green onion, cucumber and sesame seeds.
If you’re not a fan of rice, definitely check out their udon offerings. The Kohaku Udon features udon, 2 prawns, 1 chicken, 1 squid, 1 baby corn, 2 fresh beans, 1 shitake mushroom, 1 kabocha and a soft fried egg. I recommend taking the tempura off as soon as it hits the table so your tempura stays nice and crispy.
The Anago Tendon is definitely the most showstopping bowl on the menu. It features a giant tempura anago (eel), prawn, chicken, french beans, lotus root, shiitake mushroom and a deep fried egg. I recommend getting the sauce on the side so the tempura doesn’t get soggy.
Worth A Try?
Always! I love all the Tendon Kohaku locations and this newest spot at Station Square doesn’t disappoint. I highly recommend you check them out!
