République Café Bakery – Must Try Modern French Brunch in LA

When researching where to eat in LA, one spot that kept coming up was République Café Bakery. With a 4.6 star rating and over 4,300 reviews on Google, I had high hopes going in. And I’m happy to say that I was not disappointed. Located in the heart of Los Angeles in a historic building originally built in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, this charming spot is a must try. The interior looks like the courtyard of a church in the French countryside. They are open for breakfast, weekend brunch, lunch and dinner. At brunch it is counter service so be prepared to order when you get to the front of the line. First you pick the pastries you would like and then when you get to the cashier you can place your food order. Check out my full review of République Café Bakery below.

République Café Bakery – Weekend Brunch Menu

We came by on a sunny Saturday morning and the wait was about 40 minutes. For our brunch we got:

République Café Bakery - Must Try Modern French Brunch in LA savoury danish with everything bagel seasoning, caramelized onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, chive cream cheese

First, from the pastry case we got a few things to try. All there were spectacular. The Savoury Danish features caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, tomatoes, chive cream cheese and a sprinkling of their house “everything” seed blend. It was so savoury from the mushrooms and onions and the pastry was flakey and buttery.

République Café Bakery - Must Try Modern French Brunch in LA Crème brûlée Bomboloni

The Crème brûlée Bomboloni has the thinnest exterior holding in a very rich vanilla pastry cream. I think it might actually be better than the version from Mello (shh!).

For our mains we went with the Mushroom Toast which features house-cured ham, spinach, hollandaise, red wine sauce and scrambled eggs. The eggs were so light and fluffy! There was also a mountain of mushrooms on this toast. As a huge mushroom toast lover this one rivals my favourite one from Tableau Bar Bistro in Vancouver. The Vegetable Frittata was one of the lighter brunch dishes on the menu and it features broccolini, roasted pepper, tomatoes, green beans, onions, goat cheese and arugula. This was a great and light option to pair with all the other heavier items.

Worth a Try?

Yes! I totally see why this spot is so popular and highly ranked. The food was spectacular and the restaurant space is beautiful. Once we were in the restaurant, it wasn’t too difficult to find a spot to sit. The tables were being cleaned very quickly and if you can’t find indoor seating, they have a very cute patio in the back as well!
