Di Beppe is a cozy Italian restaurant located in the heart of Vancouver’s historic Gastown neighborhood. The menu is inspired by traditional Italian cuisine, with a focus on using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. If you’re looking for a warm and inviting spot for lunch Di Beppe should be on the top of your list. This cozy spot is divided into their cafe side and their restaurant side. It has a rustic vibe that really transport you straight to Italy. The walls are adorned with vintage Italian posters and photographs, and the wooden tables and chairs give the space a cozy and homey feel. There is a large variety of starters, pizza and pasta to choose from. Check out my full Di Beppe lunch review below!
Di Beppe Lunch Review – Starters, Pizza and Pasta
My friend and I came by on a weekday afternoon and it was fairly busy throughout our stay. There were plenty of people on the cafe side enjoying a cup of coffee and pastries as well as people dining in the restaurant. For our lunch we went with:
- Chopped Salad ($19.00)
- Pizza with Proscuitto Cotto, artichoke, olive and mushrooms ($27.00)
- Cacio e pepe with rigatoni ($24.00)
- Tiramisu ($12.00)
The Chopped Salad features a variety of lettuces and radicchio as well as pickles and olives. It is a salad that is bursting with different textures and flavours. It was a great way to start our meal.
The Pizza was hefty and very generous with the toppings. The crust was delightful with some great blistering. All the ingredients worked really well together, and I particularly enjoyed the mushrooms.
The Cacio e Pepe was creamy with a lovely cheese and pepper flavour. You can choose between spaghetti and rigatoni, and I had to go with rigatoni as it’s my favourite pasta shape. This dish does cool down really quickly, so you should eat it as soon as it arrives.
To finish off our incredibly filling meal we had a Tiramisu. This tiramisu was on the drier side and it was really missing a strong coffee flavour. It was definitely on the drier side.
Worth a Try?
Yes! Di Beppe is a solid spot for an authentic Italian lunch in Gastown. The service was top notch, and the staff was always checking in and offering their suggestions for what to order on the menu. This restaurant is popular with both locals and tourists, so it can get quite busy during peak hours. Overall, Di Beppe is a great spot to enjoy delicious Italian food in a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Di Beppe joins my list of solid spots to dine at in Gastown.
Save the Date – Di Beppe’s Festa della Polenta
Di Beppe is bringing back their popular ‘Festa della Polenta’ for its fifth year. They will be showcasing this versatile Italian culinary staple with a special multi-course ticketed dinner for one night only on Thursday, March 16.
Guests will start the ‘Festa’ with a celebratory beverage – their choice of spritz (Aperol or Cynar); glass of Prosecco; Oddbird non-alcoholic Prosecco; or Di Beppe’s signature Tiny Bubbles Spritz. This will pair with the first course – a snack of crispy polenta to begin the meal.
Following the antipasti course, piping-hot pots of polenta are poured ‘sulla spianatoia’ (on a wooden board) and topped off with tantalizing accompaniments such as tender ossobuco with bone marrow, roast chicken in a creamy sauce, and roasted winter vegetables and parmesan. The dinner ends on a sweet note with a dolci course of polenta cake with raspberry sauce.
There are two seatings available at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., with 38 spots available at each seating. Tickets are $95 per person (plus tax and gratuity) and are available for purchase online now (5:30 p.m. seating and 8 p.m. seating).
