It is not often that the first bite I take at a restaurant has me blown away, but Street Hawker has done just that. This brand new spot on Main Street (3088 Main Street) features a fast casual, counter service concept serving up delicious Southeast Asian inspired burgers, fries and milkshakes. Street Hawker comes to you from the brilliant minds of Potluck Hawker Eatery, so you’ll definitely feel the influence on this menu. I love the bright, funky vibe of this spot and there small front patio is a great spot to enjoy their delicious menu. I got the chance to have a sneak peek of Street Hawker Vancouver before their official grand opening during the Victoria Day long weekend, so check out my review below to see what my must order dishes are!
Street Hawker Vancouver – Smashed Beef, Fried Chicken, The Challengers and more!
The menu is small but tight, and there are currently two options for each category. I got the following to try:
The Krapow Attack features black pepper sauce, long beans and crispy basil. All burgers from the ‘Smashed Beef’ section of the menu features fresh Two River’s beef, American cheese, lettuce, onions, hawker sauce and a griddled potato roll. You have the option of a single, double ($18.00) or triple ($21). The black pepper sauce really comes through in this dish, and if you’re a fan of Black Pepper crab, definitely order this!
If there is ONE ITEM YOU GET HERE it will have to be THE SHRIMP MAC. I took one bite of this burger and I knew I would be back ASAP. The Shrimp Mac features double beef patties, shrimp toast mid bun, mango mustard, pickled mustard greens, lettuce and potato roll. The shrimp toast that acts as the middle bun is SO CRISPY and packed with shrimp. It goes so well with the rest of the burger. One bite, and you will be hooked.
The Egg Yolk Flame features aburi salted egg yolk cheese, pickled mustard greens and pickled red onions. All chicken sandos come with a whole pickled brined double fried Farmcrest chicken breast dusted with house seasoning, lettuce and a griddled potato roll. The pickled red onions really cut through the richness of this sando. The chicken was a touch on the dry side, but the sauces definitely helped.
Street Hawker Vancouver – Fries, Milkshakes and Beverages
The Dirty Hawker Fries feature crinkle cut crispy potatoes with a cheese sauce, chili sauce, pickled mustard stem, pork floss and herbs. There’s a lot of flavours and textures going on here. It is a great item to snack on in between bites of burger.
All the milkshakes at Street Hawker are hand spin with BC milk and local craft ice cream. I had to go with the Ube Milkshake and it was the brilliant purple that I always associate with old school taro bubble tea. It was rich, thick and creamy and just perfect to wash down the delicious burgers!
Worth a Try?
Absolutely. If there is one thing you have to try here, it is the The Shrimp Mac. I can confidently say that this burger is in my top 10 eats of 2023. The staff was really friendly and ready to offer suggestions on what they like best. To celebrate their upcoming opening, on May 27 starting at 11 am they will be serving up half priced Shrimp Mac burgers so mark your calendars! It’s first come, first serve!
