Vancouver’s original Hot Chicken brand, DL Chicken, is kicking off its fifth anniversary celebrations with a brand new menu, officially launching on International Fried Chicken Day, July 6, 2023. In addition to all their menu classics, DL Chicken is introducing new fresh-flavoured sandos, DL Popcorn Nuggets with housemade dipping sauce, Truffled Fries, and Spiced Mac ‘n Cheese! I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of the brand new DL Chicken 5th Anniversary menu items and I can assure you they are absolutely worth trying! Check out my full review below.
DL Chicken 5th Anniversary – New Sandos, DL Popcorn Nuggets, Mac ‘n Cheese and more!
DL Popcorn Nuggets are brand new to the DL menu. The nuggets use 100 per cent hormone-free chicken raised without antibiotics from Fraser Valley’s Rossdown Farms, and are coated with DL’s signature dredge, giving them the right amount of crunch. Guests can choose from five classic sauce options:
- DL Sauce
- Ranch
- Honey mustard
- DL’s new sweet ‘n sour
- DL’s new BBQ sauce
These chicken bites have a great crunchy coating and it’s the perfect vehicle for all the yummy new sauces. My favourites are definitely the honey mustard and the ranch. Pro tip, try dipping these nuggets in the brand new truffle mayo (from the Truffled Fries).
There are three new sandos on the menu:
- Chips n Dip with cool ranch spiced crispy fried chicken, French onion sauce, shredduce, and tomato;
- The Rookie of the Year with fresh chimichurri sauce made daily, crispy fried chicken, DL’s Rookie Sauce, Shredduce, and tomato
- The Boujee with truffled medium spice crispy fried chicken, truffle mayo, pickles, pickled red onions, and crunchy slaw
I got to try The Boujee and it definitely lives up to it’s name! This is one rich sando, and it’s loaded with truffle mayo. The pickles and red onions help to break up all the richness, but I would definitely share this sando with a friend.
As a huge truffle lover, I had to get the new DL Truffled Fries. These fries feature classic crinkle cut fries dusted with truffled spice dust and served with a side of truffle mayo. If that wasn’t decadent enough, the Mac ‘n Cheese comes with mac noodles, house-spiced cheese sauce with pickled jalapeno, and topped with herbed bread crumbs.
Worth a Try?
Absolutely! Doug and Lindsey have been bringing delicious bold fried chicken to Vancouver since 2018 and they continue to impress. I’m so happy to celebrate their 5th anniversary with them. Their new menu items add a little sparkle to an already great menu, so if you’re a fan of DL Chicken, I definitely recommend you try out these new menu items.
