Round Pot is a fairly new hot pot restaurant on Alexandra Road in Richmond that specializes in chicken and fish maw soup. Their chicken soup comes with half a free-range chicken that is fall off the bone tender. There is alos plenty of fish maw (aka the swim bladders of fish). It is collagen rich and good for your health. For Chinese New Year they have two special sets available: Golden Dragon Blessings New Year Feast and Prosperous Dragon New Year Feast. Round Pot Richmond – Golden Dragon Blessings New Year Feast
To celebrate the upcoming Dragon New Year there are two sets available:
- Golden Dragon Blessings New Year Feast (2-3 Persons) for $178
- Prosperous Dragon New Year Feast (6-8 Persons) for $368
I got the Golden Dragon Blessings New Year Feast which comes with their signature Golden Fish Maw Chicken broth with added delicacies of sea cucumber and abalone! The following dishes are included in the set:
- Seafood Platter – mussels, fish fillets, prawns and cuttlefish
- Vegetable Platter – wood ear mushroom, daikon, lettuce and napa cabbage
- Shrimp Egg Dumplings
- AAA Angus Beef
- Handmade Noodles
- Golden Rice Ball with Coconut Juice
- Salad
The staff will bring the broth to your table and bring it to a boil after adding the additional ingredients. After ten minutes or so, they will scoop a bowl of soup for everyone to enjoy. Then afterwards you can start cooking the individual ingredients.
The seafood platter was really plentiful and in particular I found the prawns to be very large, firm and flavourful! Everything was very fresh and went really well with the rich chicken broth.
Similarly, the vegetable platter was full of fresh veggies and the AAA Angus Beef was nicely marbled.
The dessert was also really well done. The ball was crisp on the outside with an oozy coconut filling. It was a bit like coconut sago on the inside – super interesting.
Worth a Try?
Yes! This set is intended for 2-3 persons, but honestly if you add an extra dish you could feed four people pretty comfortably. I found the soup to be really comforting and flavourful. The ingredients were also really fresh and pairs well with the broth. If you’re looking for a more unique Chinese New Year dinner, Round Pot Richmond is a good option.
