The newest location of Tap & Barrel is located at The Amazing Brentwood in Burnaby. This location features three levels with a lively lounge, dining room space and rooftop patio. It’s a great place to catch up with friends, cheer on the Canucks or enjoy happy hour after work. There aren’t a lot of rooftop patios in Vancouver, so this new one is a welcome addition. You get a great view of Burnaby and the best part is it’s actually outdoors! I think it’ll be perfect once summer rolls around. I came by to check out the new space and to sample their lunch menu. Tap & Barrel Brentwood – Starters and Mains
To start off our meal we got:
- Crispy Humboldt Squid ($18.50)
- Nachos ($22.95) + Guacamole ($3.95)
The Crispy Humboldt Squid features fried banana peppers, micro radish, jalapeño mayo, lemon. I like that the squid was thicker meatier pieces which went really well with the slightly spicy banana peppers. The jalapeño mayo also adds a nice kick – it’s a great starter that will pair really well with a nice cold beer.
I love nachos and I can never resist ordering them. The Nachos at Tap & Barrel Brentwood feature cumin-dusted tortilla chips, cheddar, smoked mozzarella, pickled jalapeños, black olives, pico de gallo, feta, green onion, cilantro, sour cream. It is a packed platter, and they know how to build their nachos. No chip was left naked – each one had plenty of ingredients to make for a really delicious starter. Guacamole with nachoes is a non-negotiable so make sure you order it when you get this. The portion size is really generous and there will be lots to go around.
For our mains we went with:
- Fried Chicken Mac & Cheese ($24.95) + 2 pieces garlic bread ($6.95)
- Truffle Onion Ring Burger ($24.95) + Fried egg ($2.50)
The Fried Chicken Mac & Cheese is an ooey gooey plate of deliciousness. It features buttermilk fried chicken, cavatappi noodles, bacon, sharp cheddar bechamel, parsley, parmesan breadcrumbs.
The spirals of the cavatappi noodles just gather all the cheesy sauce and it’s just such an indulgent dish.
The Truffle Onion Ring Burger features 100% canadian beef, truffle gouda, beer battered onion rings, arugula, black garlic truffle aioli, brioche bun. The burger patty was on the drier side, but the addition of the egg really helps to bring everything together. The truffle aioli is the star and the onion rings were a close second.
Tap & Barrel Brentwood – Dessert and Drinks
For dessert we had to go with the Sticky Toffee Pudding ($10.95) which features warm date and molasses cake, toffee sauce, mario’s vanilla bean gelato, candied walnuts. This is the dessert to get. It was gooey and delicious and so moist. I could eat a couple of these to be honest – it was that good. It was also surprisingly not too sweet, and the candied walnuts add a really nice crunch to the soft cake.
For drinks, we had to go with the seasonal zero proof cocktail – Strawberry Lychee Burst ($7.95). It features oolong tea, strawberry popping pearls, strawberry, lychee, soda, lemon. They also have this as a seasonal cocktail with vodka. This is the perfect summer cocktail – it’s bright, refreshing and fun.
Worth a Try?
Tap & Barrel will always be a solid choice for Happy Hour with friends for after work drinks or a good spot to watch the game. This new location has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and it will definitely be bustling outside once the sun comes in for the summer! Tap & Barrel is a great addition to the growing food scene at Brentwood.
