La Saison de Patisserie is a hidden gem bakery in East Vancouver on Rupert Street. They’re located in the brand new apartment complex that also houses Chong Lee Market. There is free parking the underground parking lot for 2 hours. This is a great spot to meet up with friends for a coffee and delicious pastries. You may know them from their recently viral “flat croissants”, but they have so many incredible pastries and cakes to choose from. I came by to preview their Noms Magazine Ice Cream Festival treats, but I was tempted to try a few of their other pastries as well. Check out my full review of La Saison de Patisserie below!
La Saison de Patisserie – Noms Magazine Ice Cream Festival Treats
Noms Magazine has brought back their Ice Cream Festival for it’s second year. This festival is a self guided festival of some of Vancouver’s best ice cream treats and frozen desserts. From June 21st to August 5th, you can explore various Metro Vancouver’s top ice cream/gelato parlours, cafes, and food spots, offering limited-time creations and signature items.
La Saison de Patisserie is participating with the following items:
- Vanilla Gelato Crookie ($11.95)
- Iced chocolate with Honeycomb Chocolate Gelato Shake ($9.50)
- Gelato Macaron Sandwiches (3 flavours – $11.95 each)
- Vanilla Gelato dipped in Dark Chocolate
- Pistachio Gelato
- Blackberry Gelato
The Vanilla Gelato Crookie is served warm and it features their flakey buttery croissant topped with a fresh cookie baked right on top. The gelato is smooth and creamy and it goes so well with the ooey gooey chocolate chip cookie topping! This festival item is only available form June 21 – July 12, so mark your calendars so you don’t miss out. The Iced Chocolate with Honeycomb Chocolate Gelato Shake is an indulgent frozen drink slush that’s not for the faint of heart. Given all it’s sweet components (housemade iced chocolate with chocolate gelato and honeycomb), this is definitely one for the sweet tooths out there. This drink is available for the duration of the festival from June 21 to August 5.
The Gelato Macaron Sandwiches features two large macaron shells with a hefty portion of gelato in between. This is such a fun summer treat! The maracon shells are perfect with just a slight chew and the gelato is refreshing and creamy. My personal favourite is the Blackberry flavour because it just reminds me of Summer! These sandwiches will be available starting July 13 until August 5. These treats are gluten free and the blackberry flavour is also dairy free!
La Saison de Patisserie – Innovative and Flavourful Croissants
The pastry cases at the front of the cafe are filled with gorgeous pastries and cakes. I couldn’t resist ordering a few to try:
- Ube Croissant ($7.25)
- Mango Croissant ($7.25)
- Crodog ($5.50)
- Blueberry Danish ($5.95)
The Ube Croissant features ube pastry cream, housemade ube jam and ube monte. The croissant exterior is flakey and buttery and it has got the perfect amount of ‘crisp’ and mess when you bite in. The ube filling is not too sweet and the flavour the ube really comes through.
The Mango Croissant features a mango curd, vanilla monte and diced fresh mango. Since we are in peak mango season, what better than now to indulge in this croissant? The mango is so sweet and fresh and it works really well in the croissant.
The Crodog features a buttery croissant base, sausage, cheddar cheese and mayo. It’s so savoury and delicious and as a savoury girl this one was right up my alley.
The Blueberry Danish features housemade blueberry jam, vanilla pastry cream and fresh blueberries. The blueberries were sweet and the vanilla pastry cream was smooth and not overpowering.
Worth a Try?
Yes! I was really impressed with the pastries I tried today. The Vancouver Ice Cream Festival is also a great way to explore cafes and dessert shops you might not otherwise try. I highly recommend you give La Saison de Patisserie a try the next time you’re in the area. They are also open pretty late (until 9 PM) so it’d be a good spot for a post dinner snack.
