If you’re looking for an elegant spot to celebrate Lunar New Year in Vancouver, Bacchus Restaurant & Lounge at The Wedgewood Hotel & Spa should be at the top of your list. Known for its elegant vibe and European-inspired cuisine, Bacchus blends sophistication with festive charm. This year, they are pulling out all the stops to welcome the Year of the Snake. The restaurant and lobby space features stunning custom decor and they have two features – a handcrafted Lunar New Year cocktail and a special Dry-Aged Duck dish. The Lunar New Year features are available daily from January 15th to February 12th, 2025.
Bacchus Restaurant’s Festive Lunar New Year Features
For the Lunar New Year, Bacchus Restaurant has two special features:
- Dinner Entree – dry-aged duck with five spiced duck leg, purple potato three ways, charred broccolini, foie gras, black pepper jus, calamansi gel ($88 for two people)
- Cocktail Feature – The Good Fortune with Bombay Gin, Chambord Black Raspberry Liquor, lime juice, egg white, Grenadine, dehydrated orange garnish ($18.00)
The dry-aged duck is delectable, with perfectly crisp, golden-brown skin that gives way to incredibly juicy, tender meat. It is one of the best preparations of duck I have had in Vancouver. The black pepper jus is incredibly flavourful and pairs well with the duck.
The Good Fortune cocktail is a perfect mix of bold and sweet. The Bombay Gin and Chambord Black Raspberry Liqueur create a rich, fruity base, while the lime juice and grenadine add a refreshing, tangy kick. The egg white gives the cocktail a smooth and frothy finish. The cocktail is a vibrant and well-balanced drink that pairs well with the richness of the duck.
Bacchus Restaurant Appetizer Menu
In addition to enjoying the delectable Lunar New Year features, we tried a couple appetizers to round our our meal. On the table:
- Albacore Tuna Leche De Tigre ($26.00)
- Poached Lobster Tartare ($30.00)
The Albacore Tuna Leche De Tigre features coconut, calamansi, chili oil and pickled shallot. Visually the dish is beautifully presented. The tuna is fresh and the coconut ‘tiger milk’ that it sits in is smooth and delicate. The pickled shallot adds a hit of acidity that lightens up the entire dish. A must order for tuna lovers.
The Poached Lobster Tartare features avocado, mango, roasted peppers and cilantro. The lobster was so fresh, sweet and delicate. The fresh mango and avocado really highlights the sweet lobster flavour without overpowering the dish.
Bacchus Restaurant Dessert Menu
Bacchus Restaurant is also participating in Dine Out Vancouver 2025. From January 22nd to February 9th they are offering a Michelin Recommended three course dining experience for $65 per person with an additional option of a $50 BC wine pairing. On our visit we were treated to the two desserts from the Dine Out menu. And for these desserts alone, I am inspired to come back to try the full Dine Out Vancouver menu. The dessert we tried:
- Chocolate Cake “Sacher” – apricot compote, candied almonds, bourbon vanilla ice cream
- Caramelized Apple Tarte – cinnamon ice cream, chantilly
The Chocolate Cake “Sacher” is a rich and decadent chocolate cake that pairs beautifully with the apricot compote. The bourbon vanilla ice cream adds an extra touch of decadence.
The star of the show for me however, was the Caramelized Apple Tarte. The apple slices are perfectly caramelized and the pastry is flakey and delicate. A showstopping dessert that I hope they add to their permanent menu.
Worth a Try?
Absolutely. Bacchus Restaurant never fails to impress and this dinner was exceptional. If you’re wanting to try them for a great price, definitely don’t miss out on their Dine Out menu. However, they are also an excellant choice for a Lunar New Year celebration. Their Duck feature is incredible and definitely one of the best ducks I have had in Vancouver.
