Minami Yaletown – Sakura Bento
The Sakura Bento’s sushi assortment is nothing short of impressive. The Aburi Oshi Sampler is a perfect introduction to the restaurant’s signature technique. The lightly seared fish providing a melt-in-your-mouth experience that’s beautifully complemented by the rice. The sampler includes: salmon oshi, ebi oshi and hotate oshi.
The Red Wave Roll and Champagne Roll offer a dynamic combination of flavors. The Red Wave Roll features bluefin tuna, rock crab, mayo, avocado, cucumber, daikon oroshi, arare, yuzu skin, wasabi pickles. And the tuna pairs really well with the freshness of yuzu and wasabi. The Champagne Roll features Hokkaido scallop, salmon, cucumber, golden tobiko, Miku sauce. The golden tobiko adds a really nice crunch that balances out the smoothness of the Hokkaido scallop. For nigiri lovers, the box doesn’t disappoint, featuring hamachi, hotate, maguro, and amaebi nigiri. Each piece was very fresh and beautifully presented.
The Aburi Butler Steak is a standout. It is buttery soft and pairs beautifully with the red pepper chimichurri which packs a huge punch of flavour. The Chicken Karaage, which offers a crisp, golden crunch and succulent chicken on the inside. The inclusion of a green salad and goma-ae adds a refreshing, slightly nutty contrast to the richer elements of the bento. The pickled daikon provides a refreshing acidity, balancing the umami-heavy elements, while the roasted vegetables bring a comforting, earthy finish to the box.
