They are crafting authentic Korean salt bread made with traditional techniques that give the buns their signature light, airy texture and just the right amount of chew. What Is Korean Salt Bread?

If you haven’t tried Korean salt bread yet, you’re in for a treat. This humble bakery staple, known as 소금빵 in Korea, has been quietly winning hearts around the world, and now, Vancouver is catching on too. Imagine biting into a golden, flaky crust sprinkled with just the right amount of sea salt that gives a gentle crunch, followed by a soft, chewy inside that’s just lightly sweetened. It’s that perfect balance of salty and sweet that keeps you coming back for more.
There’s something so comforting about the contrast in textures. The crisp exterior paired with the pillowy crumb inside is downright addictive. Plus, it’s not too sweet, so it is a wonderful treat for breakfast, dessert, or anytime in between.
How to Enjoy Korean Salt Bread
The best way to enjoy salt bread? Fresh, ideally right out of the oven or lightly warmed. Some like to chill it slightly to highlight the salt crystals, while others love it warm with a cup of coffee or tea. No matter how you eat it, this bread offers a little moment of simple joy that feels both nostalgic and new.
To enjoy Salty Bear Bakery salt breads at their optimum, heat them in an air fryer or oven at 150°C for 2 minutes on one side and then flip on the other side and heat for another 2 minutes.
Salty Bear Bakery – Salt Bread Lineup
New to the Vancouver baking scene, Salty Bear Bakery is already knocking it out of the park with their irresistible lineup of Korean-style salt bread. Known for its flaky, crispy crust and soft, chewy interior, Salty Bear’s salt bread comes in a variety of delicious flavours that will keep you coming back for more. Combining authentic techniques with creative twists, this bakery is quickly becoming a must-try spot for anyone craving the best Korean baked goods in Vancouver.
From their current flavour lineup, I tried:
- Original ($3.50)
- Milky Cream ($4.50)
- Mentaiko ($4.50)
- Sweet Potato Cream ($5.00)
- Garlic Cream Cheese ($4.75)

Cream-filled salt bread is a delicious twist on the classic Korean salt bread, combining a crispy, flaky crust sprinkled with sea salt and a soft, airy interior filled with rich, smooth cream. This irresistible treat perfectly balances salty and sweet flavors with a luscious, creamy center that melts in your mouth. The cream in both of these breads were not too sweet and super generous in filling. The Sweet Potato Cream was a stand out for me as I am a sweet potato lover. The cream goes so well with the soft sweet potato chunks.

On the savoury side, their Mentaiko salt bread was top notch. It’s filled with Mentaiko and the crispness of the bread pairs so well with the saltiness of the mentaiko.

The Garlic Cream Cheese flavour was also a favourite. It’s packed with tons of garlic and creamy cheese filling. The taste as my teeth sink into the soft bread with the crisp exterior is just so delicious. I highly recommend trying this one.
New To The Menu at Salty Bear Bakery – Cream Filled Buns
In addition to their gorgeous salt bread lineup, Salty Bear Bakery has a new line of cream buns. These buns are pillowy soft with a bit of a chew and absolutely jam packed with fresh cream. I got to try:
- Milky Cream ($4.50)
- Cheddar Cheese ($5.00)
- Blueberry ($5.00)
- Matcha & Red Bean ($5.50)

The stand outs for me were the Blueberry that is packed with tons of fresh blueberry flavour. These buns are filled to the brim with fresh cream.

The Matcha & Red Bean has a lovely fragrant matcha flavour and the red bean is a great nutty balance to the sweet cream. These buns are very unique and it’s the first time I’ve seen them in Vancouver. If you love cream and cream filled baked goods, this item is definitely for you.
