There are restaurants that shout for your attention, and then there are the ones that hum quietly in the corner, waiting for you to find them. Osteria al Centro tucked inside the Italian Cultural Centre in East Vancouver is the latter. The kind of place where the olive oil is imported directly from Sicily, the burrata tastes like it flew in from Puglia that morning, and the bill doesn’t make you feel like you’ve just booked a flight to Rome. If you’ve been hunting for authentic Italian food in Vancouver this is the spot. The restaurant is bright and airy with lots of indoor and patio seating. It’s a true hidden gem restaurant in Vancouver and it is truly a ‘if you know, you know’ spot for Vancouver locals. Check out my full review of Osteria al Centro below!
Osteria al Centro – Antipasti Menu
Starting off strong we got the following to share:
- Focaccina ($7.00) – baked daily in house, fresh herbs, val di mazara sicillian extra virgin olive oil, giusti aged aceto balsamico
- Burrata Estiva ($18.00) – Burrata pugliese, fresh local field berries, arugula, strawberry balsamic vinegar, val di mazara olive oil, toasted walnuts
At Osteria al Centro, every dish showcases at least one D.O.P. ingredient, short for Denominazione di Origine Protetta, or “Protected Designation of Origin.” This certification guarantees that the ingredient is crafted in a specific region of Italy, using time-honored traditions, and delivers unmatched quality and authenticity.

When I first arrived, I saw the stacks of freshly made focaccia all lined up, so I knew I had to order one. Baked fresh daily, this focaccia is soft and springy and finished with fresh herbs, and drizzled with Val di Mazara Sicilian extra virgin olive oil.

It might just be the best focaccia in Vancouver. Dipped in olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar this dish is the perfect starter. The focaccia is incredibly light and airy on the inside with a nice crust.

It would be a crime not to order Burrata at an Italian restaurant, so of course we also go the Burrata Estiva. The burrata is so creamy and it pairs so well with the fresh strawberries and blueberries. The toasted walnuts bring a great crunch to the dish and it pairs really well with the fresh focaccia. If you’re on the hunt for burrata in Vancouver, start here.

If you come at lunch you absolutely need to get their Stuffed Focaccia. The fillings rotate but it is such a delicious sandwich! The bread is crisp and the inside is so fluffy and soft. The fillings are well balanced and flavourful.
Osteria al Centro – Pizze and Pasta Menu
For our mains we went with:
- Funghi Pizze ($22.00) – roasted mixed mushrooms, truffle cream, arugula, taleggio, mozzarella fior di latte, toasted pecans, fresh truffle
- Bucatini All’Amatriciana ($21.00) – Guanciale, fresh ground pepper, calabrian chili flakes, san marzano tomatoes

All the pizza here is served on a classic Naples-style crust, thin in the centre, airy at the edges, and charred just enough from the high-heat oven. The Funghi Pizza came highly recommended and features earthy roasted mushrooms with a rich truffle cream that’s savoury without being heavy. Taleggio and mozzarella melt together for a mild, buttery finish. Arugula keeps it fresh, while toasted pecans add a nutty texture. This was a solid pizza that felt elevated with the large slices of fresh truffle.

The Bucatini all’Amatriciana was another delicious dish. Firm, al dente bucatini coated in a bright, slightly sweet San Marzano tomato sauce. The guanciale is crisp and salty, releasing smoky fat into the sauce. The Calabrian chili adds a slow-building heat that lingers after each bite. This is a plate of traditional Italian pasta in Vancouver that doesn’t skimp on flavour.
Osteria al Centro – Dessert Menu
No meal is ever complete without a sweet ending, so of course we had to go for two classics:
- Tiramisu ($10.00) – coffee, lady finger cookies, light liquor and mascarpone
- Cannoli ($5.00) – two cannoli shells filled with ricotta and mascarpone

The Tiramisu features soft layers of coffee-soaked ladyfinger cookies with just enough light liquor to warm the flavour. The mascarpone cream is smooth and lightly sweet, keeping the dessert balanced rather than heavy. Cocoa dusting on top gives a gentle bitterness that ties it all together.

Two crisp cannoli shells filled with a creamy mix of ricotta and mascarpone. The filling is rich but not overly sweet, letting the mild cheese flavour shine. The contrast between the crunchy shell and smooth centre makes them an easy, satisfying finish to the meal.
Worth a Try?

It’s rare to find affordable Italian food in Vancouver made with imported ingredients like DOP-certified San Marzano tomatoes, real guanciale, and burrata from Puglia. The menu is small but well-crafted, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for the quality. It’s the kind of place you can visit for a casual weeknight dinner, a quick lunch, or an easy date night without overspending. Simple, consistent, and focused on letting good ingredients speak for themselves, which is exactly what makes Osteria al Centro one of the best Italian restaurants in Vancouver.
