What To Actually Eat at Time Out Market Vancouver: My Top Picks

Time Out Market Vancouver at Oakridge Park featuring chef-driven food vendors

Vancouver’s food scene officially has a new hotspot. After months of anticipation, Time Out Market Vancouver is finally opening its doors at Oakridge Park today (May 28), bringing together some of the city’s biggest chefs, cult-favourite restaurants, and fun food concepts under one roof.

While food halls aren’t exactly a new concept globally, Time Out Market feels different because of its curated approach. Instead of simply filling a space with random vendors, the market brings together some of the restaurants and chefs that have genuinely helped shape Vancouver dining over the years. From Michelin-recognized chefs to neighbourhood favourites with devoted followings, the lineup feels like a snapshot of Vancouver’s current food culture all in one place.

With 20 kitchens, multiple bars, a dessert concept, coffee counter, and outdoor terrace spread across 51,000 square feet, the market can also feel a little overwhelming at first. So instead of listing every single vendor, I wanted to focus on the spots I think are genuinely worth prioritizing on your first visit. Here are my top picks at the new Time Out Market Vancouver.

1. Mello

Strawberries and Cream Brioche donut from Mello at Time Out Market Vancouver

I might be a bit biased because Mello is my ride or die, but I’m so happy to see that they have finally opened a brand new location after the closing of their Arbutus location. Mello is one of Vancouver’s most recognizable donut brands, and honestly, the hype is deserved.

Known for their impossibly fluffy brioche donuts and delightful rotating flavours, Mello feels perfectly suited for the more casual and energetic atmosphere of Time Out Market. I fully expect this stall to have some of the longest lines during opening weekend.

2. Mee Bar by Chanthy Yen

Cambodian-inspired dishes from Mee Bar by Chanthy Yen at Time Out Market Vancouver

One of the most exciting additions to the market is easily Mee Bar from Chef Chanthy Yen. Known for celebrating Cambodian flavours through a more modern lens, Yen’s cooking has always brought something unique to Vancouver’s dining scene.

This is genuinely one of the vendors I expect people to return to repeatedly. Cambodian cuisine still feels underrepresented in Vancouver, and Mee Bar helps bring those flavours into a more accessible and casual format without losing the heart behind the food.

I got a chance to try the Mee Kola ($25.00) which features stir fried rice noodles with choice of grilled meats, house made pickles and a side of bone broth. The dish was beautifully presented and packed a ton of flavour. The shrimp skewer had the perfect amount of char.

Pro tip: For opening weekend, Mee Bar will be giving away free grilled beef skewers to the first 100 guests on Friday

3. Lunch Lady An Choi

Iberico Pork on Rice from Lunch Lady at Time Out Market Vancouver

Lunch Lady already has a strong following in Vancouver, so its inclusion here feels like one of the market’s smartest additions. It is also personally one of my most recommended spots for Vietnamese food.

Known for vibrant Vietnamese street food inspired by the legendary Saigon food vendor made famous through Anthony Bourdain, Lunch Lady consistently delivers bold flavours that work especially well in a fast-paced food hall setting. It’s also one of the easier crowd-pleasing options if you’re visiting with a group and everyone wants something different.

I tried their Iberico Pork on Rice ($28.00) which features a 6oz grilled Coppa steak, pork crackling and green chili sauce. The pork was melt in your mouth tender and the fried egg on top was a brilliant orange colour. All their Signature dishes are served with jasmine rice, scallion oil, cripsy rice and a fried egg. This dish was flavourful and filling. Definitely one of my favourites of the night.

4. Barnacle by Bar Bravo

Seafood dishes from Barnacle by Bar Bravo at Time Out Market Vancouver

I’ve been a fan of Bar Bravo since Day 1, and I’m so happy to see their concept opening at Time Out Vancouver.

Known for its seafood-focused menu and strong natural wine program, the concept brings a more refined West Coast feel into the market. While many food hall vendors naturally lean heavier or more indulgent, Barnacle offers something lighter, fresher, and a little more seafood-forward. There’s a good mix of fun and casual dishes that are still elevated as well as classics like freshly shucked oysters.

The Lobby Dogs ($19.00) feature battered Atlantic lobster, salsa macha and crispy barnacles. This was so juicy and flavourful and as someone who doesn’t normally like fried foods I was craving for a second round.

5. Feenie’s by Rob Feenie

Rob Feenie gourmet burgers at Time Out Market Vancouver

Rob Feenie’s return to a more casual concept is something longtime Vancouver food lovers will probably feel especially nostalgic about.

At Time Out Market, Feenie’s will focus on gourmet burgers while still carrying the same polished approach that made Chef Feenie such an important figure in Canadian dining. For anyone who remembers the original Feenie’s restaurant era in Vancouver, this opening feels a little full-circle.

If you’ve already visited Le Crocodile by Rob Feenie, this becomes a much more approachable way to experience another side of his cooking.

6. Santo Taco

Quesabirria quesadilla from Santo Taco at Time Out Market Vancouver

Vancouver has no shortage of taco spots right now, but Santo Taco stands out because of its focus on more traditional and heritage-driven Mexican flavours.

In a market filled with many fusion-heavy concepts, Santo Taco helps bring a more grounded and authentic perspective to the lineup.

7. Boba Run

Strawberry Matcha Latte and Dalgona Latte from Boba Run

You can’t have a food market in Vancouver without at least one bubble tea option. Boba Run specializes in Korean-inspired bubble tea flavours and their concept brings a more playful energy that balances out some of the heavier savoury vendors throughout the space. I love that they have such an extensive menu with so many options. From their variety of matcha lattes (think Strawberry Matcha Latte, Brown Sugar Matcha Latte, Banana Matcha Latte and Matcha London Fog) to their Milk Teas (Brown Sugar Milk Tea, Thai Iced Tea, Hong Kong Style Milk Tea) and their famous Boba Run originals like Jolly Pong Cereal Shake, Misugaru Frappe, Dalgona Matcha Latte, there is a drink to satisfy any craving.

Pro tip: They’ll also be giving away free Mango Green Tea with Lychee Jelly to the first 100 guests on Monday during opening weekend.

8. Beaucoup Bakery Café & Beaucoup Creamery Dessert Bar

Beaucoup Bakery already makes some of the best pastries in Vancouver, so the fact that the team is bringing both a café and an entirely new dessert bar concept into the market feels incredibly exciting. The new Beaucoup Creamery Dessert Bar will be exclusive to Time Out Market Vancouver.

If you’re someone who typically visits food halls mostly for dessert hopping, this will probably become one of the strongest reasons to visit.

9. MaKaam

Modern artisan Pad Thai from MaKaam at Time Out Market Vancouver

MaKaam is another vendor I’m especially excited to see at Time Out Market Vancouver. Led by Nutcha Phanthoupheng — the chef and owner behind the acclaimed Baan Lao — the concept brings a more refined and modern approach to Thai cuisine that still feels deeply rooted in tradition.

While Vancouver already has plenty of Thai restaurants, Nutcha’s cooking has always stood out for its attention to detail, balance of flavour, and use of high-quality ingredients. MaKaam feels like an especially exciting addition because it gives more people an accessible way to experience her food in a more casual setting within the market.

The Fresh Rice Noodle Pad Thai Wrapped in Omelette ($30.00) features tamarind pad thai, Rabbit River Farm omelette, aged tamarind water buffalo milk gouda, peanuts, bean sprouts, herbs and chili powder.

10. Kishimoto

Kishimoto is easily one of the most recognizable names in Vancouver’s sushi scene, so seeing the beloved Commercial Drive restaurant join Time Out Market Vancouver feels especially exciting.

Known for its thoughtful approach to Japanese cuisine and beautifully prepared sushi, Kishimoto has built a loyal following over the years thanks to its balance of traditional technique and warm hospitality. Honestly, you can’t really open a major food market in Vancouver without including at least one strong Japanese concept, and Kishimoto feels like an especially fitting choice for the lineup.

While the restaurant itself is often packed, the Time Out Market stall offers a much more casual and accessible way to experience some of its signature flavours.

Opening Weekend Giveaways

To celebrate opening weekend, Time Out Market Vancouver will be offering daily giveaways from select vendors for the first 100 guests each day.

Is Time Out Market Vancouver Worth Visiting?

While Time Out Market Vancouver will inevitably attract plenty of opening-week hype, the market genuinely feels like a meaningful addition to Vancouver’s dining scene rather than just another flashy food hall.
