The Roof is one of my favourite places for Happy Hour. I love that I’m eating outdoors but I don’t have to worry about people walking by and peering at what I’m eating.
The Roof is the much more relaxed version of Black+Blue. The space is airy and bright and the food is pretty delicious!
What I ate: Salt Spring Island Mussels (heirloom tomatoes, white wine, basil, parmesan bread)
The mussels were good, and the broth was tasty – I only wish there was more of it! The bread however, was terrible. It was dry and crumbly and tasted very stale.
What I ate: Churrasco Beef (charcoal bbq beef, chimichurri, roasted cherry tomatoes, pickled red onions, cilantro)
On paper, this sounded amazing. However, in comparison to the Jerk Chicken flatbread, this fell a bit short. Although the flatbread and sauce was good, the beef was very chewy, which made it hard to eat with all the other components.
What I ate: Crispy Calamari (jalapeño, cilantro, yuzu mayo)
This was delicious! Perfectly fried and not chewy at all. I loved the yuzu mayo!
What I ate: Jerk Chicken Flatbread (jalapeño, mango, cilantro, red onion)
I had been watching the Food Network the night before and they had featured BBQ Chicken Pizza, which is a personal favourite, and so I had to order the closest approximation here. This did not disappoint. The mango was sweet and it complemented the flatbread perfectly. The flatbread itself was deliciously chewy.
The Roof never disappoints for Happy Hour, and I will definitely be back again!
