R and I usually come to Nor Boo when all the other Korean restaurants nearby are full. Nor Boo has a very hole in the wall vibe with grungy booths to boot. It isn’t a first date – or any date place really.

The food here is pretty homey, but I would avoid their banchan. I feel like this place doesn’t have very high turn over so their banchan is on the less fresh side.

What we ate: Haemul sundubu jjigae ($8.99)

They are pretty stingy on the seafood here (not that it really matters since it’s all freezer burned seafood). The taste is not bad, there’s a good spicy flavour and copious amounts of soft tofu!

For some reason I was craving for gosari (fernbrake fiddleheads) today, so that’s why I ordered this soup. I probably wouldn’t order this again here, because the beef was so chewy! I know it’s made with brisket, but this was chewing gum level chewy.

We left the banchan mostly untouched because the potatoes were really crunchy, the kimchi had some refrigerator burn going on, and the bean sprouts just did not taste good.

Would I come back? Probably, if all the other Korean restaurants had 30+ minute waits. I really wish I could support his place because the ahjumma that runs this place is really nice, but the food here just doesn’t do it for me.
