One Bowl Vancouver – Healthy Rice Bowls in Kerrisdale

One Bowl is a quaint little cafe offering up healthy rice bowls and a variety of desserts and drinks. Located slightly off the beaten path, they are hidden on Balsam Street within Kerrisdale.

I dropped by last weekend to try out a couple of their signature bowls and desserts.

Sirloin Steak Mushroom – mixed wild rice, mixed wild mushroom, 1/2 organic egg, kale and mixed greens, pickled beets and cabbage ($19.00)

When the bowl first came out it looked to be on the smaller side, but it was absolutely packed to the brim with ingredients. The steak was still tender despite being completely cooked through, and the pickled beets and cabbage added a nice flavour balance with the earthy rice, mushrooms and steak.

Truffle Chicken Breast mixed wild rice, mixed wild mushroom, 1/2 organic egg, baby kale and arugula, truffle oil and carrot + avocado ($19.00 + $2.00)

The smell of truffle is unmistakable in this dish. Even though chicken breast tends to be on the drier side, I found this preparation to be quite moist and flavorful. The peppery arugula was a nice complement to the chicken, and the creaminess of the avocado went well with the rest of the bowl.

Earl Grey Chocolate Cake ($5.00)

This cake was so fluffy! It’s a bit light on chocolate flavour, but the Earl Grey cream helps to add more flavour to the overall dessert. It went well with a cup of their coffee.

Cranberry Scone ($2.75)

The scone was served warm and had a light floral scent. It was crumbly with a good buttery taste.

They are currently running a Happy Hour Tea Time (2:00 – 5:00 PM) where you can get their Earl Grey Chocolate Cake plus coffee for $6.75 or their Scone plus coffee for $4.00. It’s a pretty great deal because a cup of coffee is usually $4.00.

One Bowl is a cute cafe to have a leisurely healthy lunch or a catch up with friends.
