Having recently dined at Hawksworth Restaurant for their Long Table Series during Dine Out Vancouver, I was suitably impressed and couldn’t wait to be back for their lunch service.
Hawksworth Restaurant features inventive Pacific Northwest cuisine and showcases the best ingredients that BC has to offer. For today’s lunch we sampled several appetizers, mains and desserts as well as a bevy of cocktails.
A stunning drink that was perfectly balanced. The dried rose was a beautiful decoration.
This cocktail was like drinking a liquid chocolate dipped strawberry. It was light, fruity with a slight bitterness from the chocolate. The rose water added a lovely scent without overpowering the cocktail. A gorgeous cocktail that is perfect for Valentine’s Day.
This appetizer was a nice fresh start to the meal. I really enjoyed the different textures and the frozen sour cream was so delicate. The celery and green apple added a nice crunch to the dish.
Quite possibly the fanciest truffle fries I’ve ever had. The fries were thick and you could smell the truffle from a mile away.
The curry was creamy and aromatic. There was plentiful amounts of seafood as well as freshly steamed broccoli. It packed a punch from all the flavourful aromatics – lemongrass, red chili and galangal, but it didn’t overpower the seafood.
The presentation of this dish was akin to a bibimbap. I really enjoyed the plethora of pickled vegetables – it contrasted well with the richness of the ling cod. The egg had a beautiful yolky center and all the components of this dish worked well together.
I didn’t have the chance to try this dish, but the presentation of it was beautiful.
This was the special of the day. The fish was moist and flavourful and the saffron broth had good flavour without overpowering the delicate fish. I really enjoyed the buckwheat groats which added a nice crunchy texture to the soft fish.
I loved the pink accents in this dish. It contrasted beautifully with the dark chocolate. I found the cake to be a bit dry and one dimensional in flavour.
This dish was rich, thick and luscious. It wasn’t too sweet and it was so smooth and indulgent in chocolate. The mandarin oranges were sweet and added a nice burst of sweetness to counter the bitterness of the dark chocolate. An outstanding dessert.
This is the most unique interpretation of carrot cake I’ve had. It’s not as moist as I expected it to be, but I really enjoyed the whimsical interpretation with the various preparations of carrot on this dish.
The restaurant was bustling at lunch, but service was on point as always. Hawksworth Restaurant has a great lunch prix fixe menu with three courses for just $28.
