Mello is a relatively new cafe that opened in Vancouver Chinatown late last year. There bright yellow storefront is a pop of colour on the street and gives off such a welcoming vibe. They are known for their stuffed brioche donuts, but Mello also has really great cookies and coffee. Another personal favourite from them is their Gorgonzola Financier. To pair with all there delicious treats is their special Mello Roast coffee, roasted exclusively for them by Agro Roasters.
The Cereal Cookie ($3.00) is made with cornflakes and is crunchy and chewy. It has a mellow sweetness and the texture of it is just fantastic. It is one of the best cookies I’ve ever had, and I always buy a couple when I’m in the store. They keep pretty well – up to 3 days!
The Chocolate Chip Cookie ($3.00) is thick and packed with chocolate chunks. It is an indulgent treat which is elevated by a sprinkling of flaked salt. It is not your average cafe chocolate chip cookie.
The Gorgonzola Financier is a sweet and savoury treat that is just different enough to make it stand out but not offend. If you are a fan of blue cheese this is a must try. Salty crumbles of blue cheese surrounded by a buttery soft cake with a delicate crumb. To really complement the savoriness, there is a sprinkling of fresh Parmesan cheese and a light drizzle of honey.
Due to the quarantine rules set in place as a result of COVID-19, they are only open for take out and delivery via UberEats and DoorDash (Check out my $5.00 discount code here). I personally recommend take out (if you can), because you can call ahead and reserve the donuts and cookies that you want to try. However, if going to the store isn’t possible, please help support this local business by ordering delivery.
