If you haven’t heard of Dalgona coffee (달고나커피) by this point, you must be living under a rock. It seems like everyone and their mother has made Dalgona coffee during quarantine season (including myself). So what is Dalgona coffee? It is a beverage made by whipping instant coffee, sugar, and hot water until it becomes creamy and then adding it to milk. It’s name comes from it’s similarity in colour to Dalgona (a Korean sweet made with sugar and baking soda.) It’s a time consuming activity, so I was so happy to see The Alley offering their newest Dalgona Coffee series featuring this famous whip.
The Alley has created a series of three drinks – Dalgona Coffee Milk Tea, Dalgona Coffee Matcha and Dalgona Coffee Deerioca. I tried their Milk Tea and Matcha iterations. Due to the social distancing rules, I had these delivered. As a resultthe layers aren’t as separated as they would normally be. I opted out of ordering the Deerioca (the drink with pearls), because I didn’t want to run the risk of hardened pearls.
The Dalgona whip is perfectly fluffy and holds up well. It paired really well with The Alley’s smooth milk tea. I ordered mine with no ice because I didn’t want my drink to be diluted. I also ordered it half-sweet and found that to be the perfect amount of sweetness.
The drinks are $6.00 each (extra $0.50 for the Deerioca) and is available now for take out and delivery (via UberEats). Check out my code (cecic463ui) for $5 off your first order.
