Matcha Cafe Maiko originates Hawaii and has locations across the United States where it serves customers matcha desserts and treats made from ingredients imported from Uji, Kyoto. This location in Richmond is the chains’ first in Western Canada.
This holiday season they will be offering a Christmas tree soft serve. It will be available from now until December 23. Please note that the cafe will be closed from December 23 – January 2nd.
This adorable treat comes in three flavours – matcha, hojicha, or swirl (both flavours), and is topped with sprinkles, tea powder (your choice of matcha, hojicha or kinako) and topped with an adorable star cookie.
The matcha flavour is prominent but doesn’t overwhelm the mellower hojicha flavour. I am a huge fan of hojicha and this version didn’t disappoint. There was a lovely roasted flavour and the soft serve itself wasn’t too sweet. Next time, I will get just hojicha because I prefer the flavour a bit more than the matcha.
Matcha Cafe Maiko is a small and homey cafe serving up delicious treats in Richmond. The service is always friendly, and the staff is always happy to recommend different desserts on the menu without rushing you to make a choice.
