I am not an expert at all in Indian food. In fact, I rarely venture out to try the cuisine, however Sula Indian Restaurant has completely changed my mind. I’ve been to Sula a few times now, and every meal has always been excellent. The service is very hospitable and the staff is very patient to explain the different dishes as well as give me their recommendations. For Dine Out Vancouver, both Sula locations (Main and Commercial) will be offering a $36 Dine Out Vancouver menu. The two locations have slightly different menus so check them out here. Check out my review below on the Sula Dine Out Vancouver menu!
$36 Dine Out Menu at Sula Indian Restaurant – Appetizers
For the Dine Out menu you will get a choice of appetizer, main and dessert. For our appetizers we went with:
- Tandoori Chicken Drumsticks – Marinated with tandoori spices, char-grilled to juicy perfection
- Papdi Chaat – Indian canape wafers topped with potatoes, chickpeas, cardamom-yogurt, & chutneys
The Tandoori Chicken Drumsticks had a nice smokey flavour. The drumsticks were tender and moist. A standard appetizer to choose if you’re unsure about Indian cuisine.
The Papdi Chaat was so unique and flavourful! I have never had a dish like this before. It’s essentially crispy wafers with a very mint-y, fresh and acidic cream sauce covering it. I kept reaching back for the dish because it was so appetizing. I highly recommend trying this dish!
$36 Dine Out Menu at Sula Indian Restaurant – Main Course
All the main courses with your choice of Basmati Rice or Coconut Rice and Garlic Naan or Onion & Cilantro Naan or Tandoori Naan. For our mains we went with:
- Dine Out Special Butter Chicken – Tandoori Grilled Chicken tikka with creamy tomato, butter, and fenugreek sauce
- Chicken Goan Curry – Goan Style chicken yellow coconut curry with turmeric and ginger
I love the butter chicken at Sula, and I always order it. The chicken is always so tender and the chunks are so generous. I love the tomato forward sauce and it’s creamy without being too overwhelming. It’s perfect with a nice heaping bowl of basmati rice!
The Garlic Naan was soft, and springy with a nice garlicky flavour – a personal favourite!
The Chicken Goan Curry was a new dish for me, and like the butter chicken, there was tons of large pieces of chicken. The curry was mild and more turmeric forward than ginger. It went well with the coconut rice, and I really liked soaking some naan in the sauce.
The Onion & cilantro naan is another solid choice. You honestly can never go with the freshly made naan here. In fact, I always order extra!
$36 Dine Out Menu at Sula Indian Restaurant – Desserts
For dessert we went with the classic Coconut Gulab Jamun. This dessert features fried paneer, coconut dumplings soaked in cardamom rosewater syrup. I usually find this dessert to sweet for me, but this one was less sweet than what I have had previously. I’m personally not a huge fan of rosewater or rose flavoured items, so I won’t order this again personally, but my friend liked it!
Worth a Try?
Yes! I find this Dine Out menu is a great value and is true to the spirit of what Dine Out Vancouver is supposed to be. It is a solid 3 course meal with a lot of different options to choose from that will satisfy a lot of different palates. The service was top notch and the food was very delicious. There was more than enough food for two people (we had so much leftovers!). Definitely check out Sula Indian for a great meal during Dine Out Vancouver from January 14-31, 2022.
