New from the Glowbal Restaurant Group is Riley’s Fish & Steak. This brand-new fish-and-chophouse concept has just opened in the heart of Vancouver’s Waterfront. Riley’s aim is to spotlight the very best of the Pacific Northwest’s farms and oceans in an expansive yet intimate space with a full bar, oyster-shucking station, and seating for 240. They will be serving up the best of the West Coast with choice cuts of Canadian and USDA prime beef as well as the freshest seafood. I came by for a media dinner to experience the beautiful new space and to sample the extensive menu. Check out my full Riley’s Fish & Steak review below!
Riley’s Fish & Steak – Appetizers
To start we had a sampling of their signature appetizers:
- Oysters Rockefeller
- House-Baked Brioche
- Wagyu Beef Carpaccio
The Oysters Rockefeller ($20.00) features buttered spinach and rock crab béarnaise on a medium rare oyster. This was such an incredible and decadent bite. The freshness of the oyster pairs so well with the rich béarnaise. The House Baked Brioche ($9.00) is an absolute must order. The garlic & gruyère brioche is so buttery and cheesy. It literally will have you reaching for piece after piece. The Wagyu Beef Carpaccio ($19.00) features smoked tomato jam, onion rings, parmigiano reggiano and chimichurri toast. The beef was nice and thin and the accruements went very well with the fresh beef.
Riley’s Fish & Steak – Chilled Seafood Towers
A signature item at Riley’s Fish & Steak that can’t be missed is their chilled seafood towers. We wee treated to The Deluxe ($198.00). This tower comes with fresh shucked East Coast & West Coast oysters, jumbo poached tiger prawns, snow crab legs, marinated mussels & clams, halibut ceviche, dungeness crab and Qualicum bay scallops. Each part of this tower was so fresh and delicious. The standouts for me were the tiger prawns, the Qualicum bay scallops and the halibut ceviche!
Riley’s Fish & Steak – Steaks
Of course we couldn’t come to Riley’s without trying a steak! We had the Prime Beef Tomahawk ($175.00). This 40oz Tomahawk was absolutely enormous! The steak was a perfect medium rare and it was so incredibly flavourful! However, I would personally take some of the salt off as my piece had a ton of finishing salt on it which really overwhelmed the taste of the meat.
Worth a Try?
Yes! Riley’s Fish & Steak is definitely one of those spots where you eat if you want to be seen. It is a stunning work of art inside and out (check out the lovely entrance with all the greenery!). However, under all that sparkle is some pretty delicious food. I personally found the seafood dishes more enjoyable, and I will definitely be back for more. The neighbouring tables had some pretty delicious looking burger and fries so I’m definitely intrigued to come back to try that as well!
