Chang’An Restaurant is one of the best Chinese fine dining restaurants in Vancouver. They serve an amazing Peking duck that is both theatrical and delicious. They offer unique Chinese cuisine integrating traditional Shaanxi tastes with contemporary food plating.
How to Enjoy Peking Duck
Traditionally, Peking duck is served in three stages. First, slices of the crispy duck skin is served with sugar as a dip. Next, the meat is served with paper thin crepes and an assortment of condiments – cucumber, spring onion and hoisin sauce. The reminder of the duck is then either used in a soup preparation or stir fried with sweet bean sauce.
Chang’An Restaurant – Signature Peking Duck
The signature dish at Chang’An is definitely their Chang’an Peking Duck that is by reservation only. It is $108 and it comes with a show! The duck is wheeled out to your table, lit on fire, and then carved table side.
The duck comes with the standard sides – green onion shreds, hoisin sauce, cucumber and thin crepes. I prefer the Peking Duck at Chang’an because the crispy skin is served with sugar, and the main portion is skin plus duck meat. It makes for an incredibly tasty wrap.
The Pork Belly Sliders ($28.00) is another specialty of Shaanxi Province. Each flatbread (akin to a pita) was steaming hot and the pork belly filling was so flavourful. The pork is stewed for hours and has a deep rich flavour.
The service and food at Chang’an is top notch. It is very comparable to Mott 32 Vancouver (another personal favourite). Given it’s excellent location on False Creek, you also have a beautiful view while dining here. They even have a patio for you to enjoy the beautiful Summer nights! I highly recommend you check this spot out as your next ‘treat yourself’ meal. You definitely won’t be disappointed!
