Claudio’s Ristorante – New Spot for Comfort Italian Food in Burnaby

Claudio’s Ristorante is a brand new restaurant in SOLO District in the Burnaby Brentwood area offering up comforting Italian food. It is the newest iteration of Burnaby family favourite Pasta Amore. Pasta Amore was a family-owned institution for over 20 years in Burnaby. Claudio’s aims to keep the spirit of Pasta Amore alive by serving up authentic Italian dishes made with the best of local and Italian ingredients. Check out my full review of Claudio’s Ristorante below!

Claudio’s Ristorante – Antipasti Menu

To start our meal we had:

  • Caesar Salad
  • Antipasto

The Caesar Salad ($16.00) features romaine, pane fritto, grana padano. It’s a solid rendition and a good portion size. The Antipasto ($25.00) features Italian cured meats, cheeses and pickles. There was good selection of meats and cheeses on this platter and I really enjoyed the inclusion of blue cheese.

Claudio’s Ristorante – Pasta, Pizze and Secondi Menu

For our mains there are so many options to choose from including an extensive pasta and pizza menu as well as more substantial main courses like ribeye.

We went with:

  • Boscaiola Bucatini
  • Tagilatelle Nere
  • Salmone Pizze
  • Lingcod

The Boscaiola Bucatini ($23.00) features pancetta, mushrooms, cream sauce and grana padano. If you have never had Bucatini it is similar to spaghetti but it is much thicker with a hole running through the center of the pasta. This was a table favourite as the pasta was perfectly cooked and there was a generous amount of mushrooms in this dish which we really like! The Tagilatelle Nere ($27.00) features mixed shellfish, lemon butter, chili and parsley. The Tagilatelle was cooked well and the black colour is very visually stunning. We found this dish to be less flavourful than the Bucatini and we were missing the punch from the chili.

The Salmone Pizze ($27.00) features smoked salmon, burrata, arugula, poppy seed and basil. The pizza crust was nice crispy with a good chew. There was a generous amount of smoked salmon and burrata on top and it went really well with the freshly baked pizza. This was my favourite dish of the evening.

The Lingcod ($28.00) features acqua pazza, fennel and pomodorini. The fish was well cooked and the broth was very flavourful.

Claudio’s Ristorante – Dessert Menu

To finish off our night we had a classic Tiramisu ($10.00) which features lady fingers, espresso and mascarpone. It was a generous portion, but we found it to be quite light in flavour and a little too creamy for our tastes. We definitely needed more espresso in this.

Worth A Try?

As they are newly opened, I think I would give this spot some time before checking it out. While my meal was good, my friends had quite a few misses during their dinners. There is definitely promise showing through in the dishes, but I think they just need some time to work out the kinks and fine tune some of their dishes. Overall, I had a great experience and I will be back.

My recommended dishes are: Antipasto, Boscaiola Bucatini, Salmone Pizze and Ling Cod.
