Suika is celebrating their 12th anniversary, and to commemorate they’re featuring a special Wagyu Beef Tongue menu from September 19th to October 2nd. This is one of my favourite Japanese izakayas and I’m so happy to celebrate with them! Check out my full review of the Suika Special 12th Anniversary menu below.
Suika – Wagyu Tongue Festival Menu
Their Wagyu Tongue Festival menu includes:
- Fork Tender Wagyutan Steak
- Truffled Wagyu Gyutan Ragu Udon
- Aburi Wagyutan Battera
- Wagyu Gyutan Carpaccio
- Spicy Wagyutan Yukke
I am a huge fan of beef tongue so this menu is totally up my alley. My standouts were the Aburi Wagyutan Battera which features beef tongue pressed sushi torched with yuzu green onion and seaweed. The soft poached egg was perfect for dipping!
Another table favourite was the Spicy Wagyutan Yukke. This dish features thin strips of beef tongue marinated in a spicy gochujang sauce. I love the sweet and spicy sauce! I found the ice cream cone to be totally unnecessary.
The Fork Tender Wagyutan Steak was another table favourite. The fried rice cracker on top was perfect with the thick and rich curry sauce.
The Truffled Wagyu Gyutan Ragu Udon which features beef tongue in a truffle demi glace and finished with ricotta cream was a nice heavy carb dish to fill you up.
Suika – Calpico Festival
In addition to their Wagyu Tongue menu they also have a special drink menu featuring Calpico to celebrate. Calpico is a popular Japanese soft drink that is slightly milky and tastes like Yakult. We tried the 4 of the drinks (non alcoholic verions):
- Mango Passion Paradise
- Milky Peach Calpico
- Ume Biko
- Black Sesame Calpico
The Mango Passion Paradise features mango passion sauce, soda and Calpico. It is a light and refreshing summer drink. The Black Sesame Calpico features black sesame milk with Calpico and whipped cream. This was a sweet drink and could definitely be a dessert on its own. The Ume Piko features honey plum syrup, Calpico and soda. It was my personal favourite as the sourness of the plum goes well with the sweetness of the Calpico. The Milky Peach Calpico features homemade peach syrup, Calpico, milk and a sliced peach. It’s such a fruity and fun drink – almost like a melted milkshake (in the best possible way!)
Suika – Regular Menu and Desserts
To round off our meal we had two of my favourite dishes: Uni, Ikura and Crab Carbonara Udon which features udon in a rich sea urchin cream sauce and Aburi Salmon Pressed Sushi which features pressed salmon sushi topped with unagi sauce and ikura. You can never go wrong with these two! I love how rich and creamy the udon is and the bright bursts of flavour from the ikura to counter the overall richness of the dish.
To end the meal on a sweet note we had Frozen Matcha Brulee (always a table favourite) and a Creamy Chestnut Pudding. Both desserts were the perfect size for a nice sweet bite after lunch.
