Can you believe it’s almost March, but we are still in the midst of a snow storm? The weather has been so chilly recently so I have been indulging in a lot of different hot pot spots to keep warm. Here is a list of my top 5 spots for Hot Pot in Burnaby!
1. The Dolar Shop
If you wanted to indulge in fancy hot pot this is the time to do it. The Dolar Shop Station Square has an amazing lunch special deal which includes a variety of sets with unlimited rice or fresh handmade noodle refills. The Dolar Shop is my personal favourite spot for hot pot and I highly recommend you give them a try!

2. Pot Empire
Pot Empire 喜鼎燒鍋 is the new darling hot pot spot on Kingsway. They just soft opened, and are offering a variety of specials leading up to their grand opening. This spot bills itself as a “Taiwanese Hot Pot” spot and offers individual hot pots with various sets to pair with their soups. Right now it is a great time to check them out because they’re offering unlimited tea, handmade fresh noodles refills and ice cream for dessert. The sets range from $18-35 and comes with your choice of meats, seafood, vegetable platter, and rice or noodles. There are plenty of soup choices including Pork Bone, Taiwanese Spicy Soup, Malaysian Laksa, Korean Kimchi, Thai Style Tom Yum and more. Check out the full Pot Empire menu here:
Pot Empire is large and clean with a very unique interior. The restaurant is decorated with bright neon light signs that really remind you of dining out in Asia.

3. Gokudo Shabu Shabu
Located on Kingsway, Gokudo Shabu Shabu is a Japanese-style hot pot spot that offers a variety of broths, including a classic dashi broth and a spicy miso broth. They recently moved to a larger location under the Element Vancouver Metrotown and across from Crystal Mall. The meat and seafood options are high-quality and flavorful, and the vegetable selection is varied and fresh. The service is friendly and efficient, and the prices are reasonable.

4. Big Way Hot Pot
Big Way Hot Pot is a great hot pot solution for big and small appetites. From their display cases you can select the ingredients of your choice, and then you pick you soup base (8 different soups), and then the kitchen will cook up your pot fresh for you. So you can have as big or as little of a pot as you desire! There are so many ingredients to choose from – from vegetables, tofu, noodles, meats, fish balls and more. My recommendation is to load up on the vegetables (quite light!) and thinly sliced meats. I love this spot for its great service, fresh ingredients and delicious soup bases.

5. Pearl Hot Pot
This old school spot has been a favourite of mine for years. They’re one of the first to bring custom personal hot pots to Burnaby and they remain a solid favourite. Pearl Hot Pot is definitely the spot for best value individual hot pot. Their sets come with your choice of meat, veggie platter, noodle or rice, egg, sauce and your choice of drink and ice cream for dessert. It’s a great neighbourhood spot for those days that you want hot pot that won’t break the bank.
