There is a new BBQ skewer spot in Richmond that just opened on Alexandra Road. They specialize in Northeaster Chinese-style dishes and they’re open until 2 am daily Monday-Thursday and 3 am on Friday and the weekend. The entire restaurant is a retro throwback vibe with bright neon lights, flashing screens and hard wooden chairs. We went by really early (at opening) so we didn’t have to wait for table, but my friend drove by last time and noticed that later in the evening they were turning away tables because they were just too busy. Grill Party Richmond – BBQ Skewers and Cheap Alcohol
Their skewers range from $1.99 to $11.99. But do note there is a minimum order of skewers per order for most of the options. It’s not indicated in English but look at the brackets next to the Chinese name of the dish and the roman numeral will indicate the minimum order. For example we ordered Beef Tongue (1.99 per skewer) but there is a minimum order of 5 skewers.
Other things we got include Honey Garlic Chicken Wing ($2.99 per skewer, min. 2), Chicken gizzard ($1.99 per skewer, min. 5), Eggplant with garlic sauce ($8.99), and Beancurd sheet with cilantro ($2.99 per skewer, min. 2). You place your order on a sheet and the kitchen will prepare your skewers. The skewers are then brought out and placed on a hot plate on your table.
Overall, the price is reasonable for skewers and on par with the rest of Vancouver. But because of the minimum order quantities the bill really starts to add up. This would be a fun place to go with friends for drinks and skewers. They also have pretty good alcohol specials including the above flight of four beers (150 ml each) for $9.99. If shots are your thing, they have a special for two kinds: Lemon Drop (20 shots) for $49.99 and Milky Way (25 shots) for $59.99. But they’re pretty watered down and sweet.
On our way out around 7 pm the restaurant was starting to get busy. We also noticed that they had a patio permit sign outside, so it looks like there will be a patio coming soon!
